Does anyone know how many amps that 8 AA batteries put out? I'm going to add an AC adaptor to a device that normally runs on 8 AA batteries. The batteries run down way too quick. I know to get an adaptor that outputs 12V (1.5V/battery) I just need to know what the amps or mA that the adaptor needs to output. Any help would be appreciated.

Most AA's run about 2400mA to 2700mA's.

You best bet is to go to the web site of whomever made the device you are trying to power. Find out the Amp requirements specifically. If you put in too much you can blow out the device.

Thanks for the responses. I'll see what I can find out from the manufacturer.

This site has a basic description: http://www.techlib.com/reference/batteries.html
I think you are confusing the terms mAh and mA. Batteries are not rated in how many mA they can produce. They are rated in milliamp hours or mAh. Basically, if you have a battery that is rated for 2000mAh and you have a circuit that runs with a 50mA current, then the circuit will run for approximately 40 hours. However, if you have a circuit that runs with 500mA, then the circuit will only run for about 4 hours. I would look on the device or do as suggested and contact the manufacture to figure out how many amps of current the device will draw, then choose an adapter with that capability. Hope that helps. |

Thank you for the info. I found out that as long as the AC adapter outputs more mA's than the device needs, then it will be ok. AC adapters are designed for devices up to the stated mA output.
