The economy decreased the shows for a lot of paid performers. Has it decreased the rates of street buskers too?

Gallagher, you perform your act so well, you won't have to ask anything.

I don't think it decreased the rates per say, but rather the amount of foot traffic in busking areas. - at least in the areas I face. Tourist areas are seeing a downtick in traffic that is expected to worsen.
I think the challenge is to find new areas that offer busking opportunities if the tourist sections get too dry. I could see how people may not tip as well... thinking ohh Ill toss a $1 instead of a $5.... the media has everyone convinced its doomsday in the US.

Yeah I can see it being a double edge sword -
the busking areas are not seeing as much foot traffic, and those that are there may be more frugal in tipping.

The Economy is a lame excuse
sure if you gotta nice act your hats may be a little lower than usual,, but you still made a hat Do it all day If you have the talent to work the streets and make money your truely blessed. It took me a while to figure that out... Think of it this way With all the jobs being lost, people will have more time to stop and watch your show.. (unless your working in an expensive vacation spot) They may not have much to toss in the hat ... but again atleast your gonna make a hat. What would you rather have the freedom of making money on the street with your act a wack job with lame pay , no raises when the purchasing power of the dollar goes down No Job..... I went out last weekend in a dead tourist town and made about 350 working a trickle all day... this is a town that is nearly impossoble to work this time of year..I'll take street performing any day |
