Aside from being WISM winner of close-up magic and learning form the great Dai Vernon, Michael is genuinely one of the easiest and thorough magicians to have instructing you from the comfort of your home via DVD. If you are into close-up magic with thread, cards, cups and balls, etc. then you cannot go wrong with this guy. I have bought all of his Card Miracles tapes ( ebay 5.00 for the set!!no kidding) and he is definately in my top five fav magicians.

The Michael Ammar DVDs are a very valuable resource indeed. When you're done studying them, put them away and build from the routine he taught. Remember to make your magic YOUR magic.

I went to his lecture in Buffalo around 2000, it was right when he released the cups and balls tapes/books. I'll be ***ed if he didn't do the vernon wand spin at least a hundred times. He answered every question and stayed formore than hour after he was scheduled to leave. Not only is he a great performer but he is a great teacher as well. I think he is one of the greatest teachers of modern magic.

I can believe the $5 for the tapes. Almost nobody wants them anymore. Dvds are all the rage now. I've backed up my tapes to DVD, but they don't have the quality or polish that the ones from L&L have, as they are just a straight run of the tapes. Unfortunately, one of the tapes has some sort of protection scheme on it, so I can't make a backup copy. Looks like I'll have to buy the DVD outright.
It would be great to have a way of exchanging the old vhs tapes for the DVDs.

Hi,
I have got Michael Ammars ETMCM vol 1 - 6 and was wondering what you would suggest for me to go to next, I have decided not to go for the last 3 volumes of ETMCM, I believe I am fairly good with cards and could go for some more advanced tricks, I would like it if I could get a DVD that teaches tricks that do not use gimmicked cards, unless the cards come with the DVD, I would prefer DVDs over books, what would you suggest? thanks |

Mr. Ammar is surely one of the most respected men in magic today. So many contributions.
He is booked to appear at my local club's convention in May (www.magicalmayday.com) As for priznas question about whats next - Royal Road to Card Magic comes in DVD. I suggest going that route.

I would recommend Paul Wilson's Royal Road To Card Magic DVD as well.
I know they don't seem to be recommended much here, but I also liked Crash Course 1 & 2 and Ninja 1 & 2 from Brad Christian / Ellusionist. |

You might also look at Harry Lorayne's work. He is a great teacher and packs a lot of info into his DVD's and books... Jim

I liked Wilson`s Royal Road to Card Magic very much. Michael Ammar is indeed a good magician, but personally not my favorite teacher. I find him a bit too technical in his books and DVD`s, compared to other magicians who also comment on the psychological and philosophical aspects behind their effects (Tommy Wonder, Eugene Burger, Max Maven, Paul Wilson...)

Michael Ammar is one of the best teachers ever. He controls every magical aspect, giving a lot of importance to magical history and magical phylosophy (as it should be). He is a very versatile magician, as he works with many instruments such as cups & balls, cards, business cards, thread, etc.

Not to take anything away from Mike Ammar or Dai Vernon, or anyone else for that matter, but it isn't the "Vernon Wand Spin", it's the "Mora Wand Spin".
Ray Goulet confirmed that Dai Vernon begrudgingly admitted that the wand spin was created by "Silent Mora". Back to the regularly scheduled program...

May 30th we'll be hosting Michael Ammar (also Daniel Garcia) at the Mechanicsburg Club, outside of Harrisburg PA. We're also talking to Michael about doing a Friday night workshop.
