Naturally you are free to do as you wish but I keep suggesting that we don't say a word about this jerk; any exchange or focus is advertising for him. Let him fall in oblivition if we can. Our reactions are observed by the channels and if we don't react it means that the guy is without interest (which he actually is). Don't search him on the net (Google does the counts for the channel), just let him die. The Fox ad was "Breaking the Magician's Code: Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed": it says it all. We were the target and our reactions the success measurement.

Nothing I have seen him do does any real damage to magic. I mean, come on - he's prancing about in some darkened warehouse, thrusting blades through various boxes, and showing how the assistant doges them etc. Why is this so harmful? Anyone who is remotely interested in finding out how these illusions are performed already knows full well that the secrets are going to be along these kind of lines. After all, it's not exactly rocket science. I say: stop fretting about it. If it floats his boat, then let him get on with it. It's not as if the International Magicians Guild are going to hunt him down with a rifle, is it? Who is to say that he can't make those programs if he wants to? It's not illegal.

"The Masked Magician’s purpose is to encourage the New Generation Magicians, Established Magicians, Magic enthusiasts, magic historians, scholars, inventors and promote public interest in the Art of Magic with particular emphasis on preserving its history as an Art form, entertainment medium, and hobby." MM website.
Oh, preserving history - well I guess that's ok then. And here was me thinking he was just in it for the money...

I must say, not bad. Except for when his assistant screws up with the form.

In his Magic NewsWire interview #79, Jim Steinmeyer says "The Masked Magician specials completely exist because magicians want access to those secrets... Because MAGICIANS want access."
He goes on to say "We all know about Valentino being involved. He was a solid performer... who was convinced on some level that this was going to work..." "They didn't steal ideas for those shows; they got them from books and they bought plans." "Magicians want access to those things. Magicians want to be able to have that anytime they want, but they don't want outsiders to have them."
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

I love the way people hate the guy. I wonder the real reason why???
Me, if I was asked to do a special on exposure, I'd be there in a minute! And so would (more than) half the "hatters". As a matter of fact, one of the show packages I offer is my "See the show, learn the secret". I perform my act and then explain everything I performed. I charge a lot and have done a fair amount of them. I make MORE money and the people love it. I wish I could do it on TV. |
