I perform the version taught on ETMCM and it is one of the most visual effects I perform. I keep preped cards in my wallet for this effect all the time. This is one of my most-requested effects.

Buy the Walton version first! He deserves your business. Roy has granted permission to Michael Ammar so that he could teach the classic approach to this wonderful trick.
Then go on to research the others. I love Bruce Cervon's routine; Michael Close's routine is great; Bob McAllistar/Howie Schwartzman's routine is fantastic,... Heck, they all have something. BTW, I teach my routine for Card Warp at my lectures only. Roy Walton gave me permission to add "my something" to his routine. If we ever cross paths, ask me. Regards, Paul Green |

David Acer has a "get ready" in his book, "Natural Selections." His way allows you to show both cards at the beginning (or have them signed, or whatever) just like the original, but frees you from having to do the bend-back reversal. The card prep is the same, it's just a difference in the way he puts the cards into the "slider" position.

Bruce Cervon's version is in his book Ultra Cervon with a couple of variations and is superbly explained. (This version uses one card and a bank note.)

I'll go for Close's version. I like Cervon's too, but if I go for a version with a bill, I think that the Close one offers some phases that Cervon's doesn't. It's pretty visual. Very nice.

I left the puzzle to those who care;
That a final push causes the cards to change places, the horizontal for the vertical. A trick worth doing needs a finish.

Whilst on the subject what kinda 'patter' do you use or what is you reason for showing that a card has turned inside out??

Bravo Xia! Presentation and motivation are more important to most people than two cards having a bad fold day.

I know I have seen people do cardwarp, Blaine style. "Look I take this card and slide it in here and look, watch, see that, look, look, that's crazy isn't it?"
How boring.

I'd have to vote for Close's. I've been using it for years. Love the presentation, and the different phases.

I only know a few variations on card warp. I do the orignal version of course (not as often as I probably should). Then there's Vinny's Warped and Restored, which is cool because you only have to maim one card. Ben's Card Fusion would count as a member of the card warp family I think. I may be biased, but my favorite is my own trick, Cold Snap. You don't have to fold the card. you just push it through the deck cross-wise, and it changes as it comes out the other side. Plus, you can (and should) have the card signed to prove it is the same card. I have the cards back change from blue to red because it fits my storyline, but you could just as easily have the card go from faceup to face down.

I do the Star Warp I learned from Michael Ammar. It's a very visual trick, but patter didn't work for me - the logic was weak in a couple of spots and it didn't match my style. So I gave up on it;-)
No, really, I just tweaked the patter. When I start by bending the card in the bill, I have the bill face down. I mention that the act of observation has an effect. So, the dead president watching the card bend makes the card behave normally. But when I flip the bill around, now he can't look inside. So it's no surprise that maybe the card doesn't behave as expected (then I show the warp). To explain the rip at the end, I do a variation on Ammar's patter: I say that one thing I always wonder is how the card looks under the bill. I have both ends of the card showing and I do the rip. Pulling out the one side, I say ok, well I know the face up part goes at least half way. Then I show the other half. Rather than focus on the pieces fitting together, I immediately focus on the bill - there's got to be something special about the bill, let's look. Then I hand it all out for inspection. JesterJ |
