Anyone else have the pop gun? Could you review? It seems intriguing and also looks so outrageous that it will be hard for the "no guns, even play guns" folks to object.

The instructions are clear and very well written. There's one little "move" that I'm a little bit concerned about but I'm sure with a small amount of practice it should be fine. I am really looking forward to doing routine and hope to find a bit of practice time soon. I don't think it's the kind of thing I would use for very young children (ie 4-5s), but I think for 6s and up it would go down very well. As soon as I've used it "under fire" I'll let you know! I received my Pop Gun today. I have to say, my first impression is that this a real worker. The props supplied include the very cleverly designed gun, with it's hilarious fake cans - "Dr Popper", "Popsi", etc. There is a simpler-than-simple gadget to do the naughty work, and cleverly designed so you can immediately hand the "dirty" part to a kid, once the deed is done. The gimmick is gone, and there is nothing to find. The gun has a safety catch to prevent premature firing, and is solidly built, and simple to operate. One would expect it to last many years, maybe a lifetime. The look of the gun is brilliantly, very "home-made", but truly very well made - and sufficiently different from a regular gun, not to be a problem for the anti-gun lobby (though I daresay they might compare the look to a rocket launcher, which I guess is worse!)
You also receive the beautifully crafted ring, stage size - 33cm across. This will burst the balloon when required. A prop to use on its own for many other routines than this. There is also a wooden apple, so that if you prefer you can avoid the mess of real apples, or more realistically, for the occasions when you don't bring a real apple. Surely, any magic routine is enhanced by adding a piece of real fruit? And you can have a bite at the end.... There are also all the neccessary other bits and pieces in case you don't have any around, so you can perform the routine straight away. As yet, I've not performed this, but already I'm quite sure it's a winner. The "magic" part will get pretty much everybody, the props look GREAT, and the involvement of at least two audience members means that this routine has all the elements that a really great routine requires. For me, this represents the first opportunity to use any kind of actual "gun" in my shows....I own "Big Shot", though the previous owner left gunpowder in the chamber, which has caused corrosion. Now it needs a serious overhaul! My mate suggested that instead of using real gunpowder, he modify it to fire a pistol blank......hmmmm.....I tried to imagine using a prop that fires a REAL gun round, albeit blank, and decided that I really don't need to take my shows in that direction! Though the noise would scare the bejabbers out of the kids! He he..... In conclusion, the Pop Gun is a quality product, with a solid magical, audience pariticpation routine, and probably the only "gun" trick that we might get away with these days. Love it! Potty |

Doug, thanks for your positive detailed review. I hope to hear some feedback when you use it in your shows.
How big was the box that it came in and how much was the shipping cost?

Okay. Now you've done it. I'd forgotten all about this prop until you resurrected this thread. Now I have to get one. Geez.

You could perform this routine without the POP gun, the basics are silk in apple. The prop merely gives you a nice big finale, as well as helping a lot with the sneaky stuff. My existing silk in apple routine seems not to work with the POP gun, but I'm hoping to come up with a suitable story that will let me simply add the POP gun to the end of my existing routine.
The gun is supplied in a cardboard box 60x40x12 cm approx. It's internally padded, and perfect for keeping and carrying the prop, includes a handle. Shipping and import duty/VAT to the UK came to about £60. Steve - sorry buddy, you should know better than to go reading reviews of new props in these days of the credit crunch! :) |

There's a fantastic "silk in apple" routine taught in depth in Jeff Hobson's DVD, but I think this prop is a very good looking item. I also purchased a "Mosundspow", and thought the quality of that was good.

I love the look of the prop and idea. Anyone complained saying it is a gun? I want one, just curious if anyone using it has had any complaints about it being a gun.
Thanks!!! |

I placed an order for one. I work in a Country Western music show as the comedy relief guy.
I am thinking I will use the music from "The good the bad and the ugly" with a reverse William Tell spin a kid will be the marksman and his father the target. |
