Phil,
You should reread my post to understand what Criss is up against, and why, if it does, the show will close. B

Hi Blair,
I totally agree with you that the show seems to be way more Cirque than Criss (again, this is coming from me who hasn't seen the show). I was just responding to all those who continually insist that Criss is totally incapable of making a huge show work. The fact that it isn't working is most likely exactly the reason you describe. |

As I said, any show that is a Cirque show, would be difficult to put a "star act" into, let alone be the thread that holds the show together.

Although Celine did okay. It wasn't the greatest, but she did pull it off for a long time.

But when you put the name of your 'star' in the name of the show, you need to have a person with charisma. Someone who also has contact with the people who (want to)see the show. And someone who is 'believable'.. Such a person can bring in the money. And Criss Angel does, in my opinion, not fall in that category. He seems not to have any respect at all for his fans and audiences. And, logically, those people drop him instantly and find another hero.
Also 'Believe' is not a magic show. It has a couple of magic acts but not enough to be able to call it a magic show. And it isn't a Cirque show either. It doesn't have any circus acts. It is a line-up of strange acts. And then it is like going to a museum of (modern) art. Either you like it, or you don't go even close to that building. So I think 'Believe' is too strange for large crowds. When you want to have a show that gets big crowds you need to script a show that will get big crowds. It is that simple. So make it understandable and entertaining for as much people as you can. When you go to a show you want to be entertained. Otherwise you could as well stay at home or in your hotel. And 'Belive' could just be anything but entertaining. It is a never ending bunch of acts that lack fun, story, mystery... So what do you see? Dancers in strange, dark looking decors. Magic that you understand after you read 'magic for dummies'. And no feeling at all. It will not make you laugh. It is not scary. It doesn't do anything with your emotions. And just like Hans Klok's 'Beauty of magic' it seems that this show is created by a team that does not have any magical background. It reminds me of what one of the biggest showmakers in Europe said not so long ago to an illusionist. 'I like the Linking Rings! Can you do that? And do you also have that box that you can fold to a very small size? (Origami) And I saw another illusionist do something with spears and with sawing someone. Can you do that?' Those showmakers are limited to what they have seen and to what is their world of magic. When you want to book an illusionist and the first thing you ask is if he can do the illusions that another magician is doing.... why don't you give that magician a call instead. Lol. And when you ask an illusionist with say 100 illusions standing in his warehouse, why not have him decide what kind of illusions could work for the show, instead of asking him to bring his Origami.. CduS needs to have someone on their payrole who knows his way around in magic. But at this moment they are perhaps too proud to do that. Not just an advisor for one or two projects but someone who is working for CduS just as all their special effects people. Otherwise their magic will never become as magical as their original Cirque-shows. My two cents... Lol. I like to study why certain magic shows are extremely successfull and others a complete disaster. You can learn a lot from that, and avoid making the same mistakes, or on the other hand do just that what makes other shows the crowdgetters... EVI |

Just got back from Vegas, and I went to see Believe.....It was a total dissaster. I've been performing magic close to 30 years and watched numerous performers doing their act and Believe is by far the worse I've ever seen......To take in cosideration the overall performance I would not pay nothing more than 40 dollars to see it....and by no means I would see it again.....
From the intro to the end the performance was less that expected.....The mix between Criss and Cirque Solei was like oil and water. Criss constant being covered by his clown friend when doing the dirty work was so obvious, even people around me noticed it and commented amonst each other.....You could tell the dissatisfaction of the audience as the applaus he received was given as an expectation but not as a well deserved applaus.... The flow of the show was terrible, and to me the best part was when it was over....I felt I was ripped off, and so did my other five guess..... I guess that is why Cirque Solei decided to give a 30 percent discount for Believe and Believe only if you would purchase another Solei Show. Overall I would not recommend this show....... |

I played in a couple of poker tournaments with a lot of locals in Vegas that had seen the show. None of them liked it. Some of them said they wanted it to be good, so after they heard it had been revamped they went back and still didn't like it. I personally haven't seen the show so this is their oppinion, not mine.
