Shawn gave a great lecture last night that was delivered in three sections. He showed effects during the first two parts and then did a Q&A for the third part.
Shawn is a wonderfully dynamic and creative magician. He shared how he developed his effects which is also an effective way of showing alternatives to doing them. He tries to develop magic that is fun, foolproof, and easy (on the magi.) He has that positive, contagious magic attitude that all magicians want. So while he is lecturing, you can't help but be affected by his enthusiasm. He sold his stuff at the second break with no pressure and started the third part of the lecture around 11PM. I stayed for about an hour more. He started by talking about his experiences with corporate work and cruise ship work. He also talked about how he fell into movie and TV work. Very cool. He started to talk about his Magic Competition journey when I had to take off. He speaks honestly and genuinely from the heart. He's clear about which effects of his magic he is ready to release to the community and which effects he wants to hold onto for now, which I felt demonstrated an admirable integrity. He was also very generous with his credit and praise of other magicians when appropriate. Aw crap, he's just awesome! Don't miss his lecture when he hits your town! |
