Looks interesting Luca, thanks for the heads up....for the price though, I am a little sceptical on the quality of the product....may dip in to satisfy my curiosity, but not sure!!

I hardly think anyone would want this banned as all the effects within have been published elsewhere. The techniques used will be known to most mentalists. Nothing new here.

Lame.... take a look at the contents. No doubt his people meant "if you use his name to promote this book, we'll take legal action".. very different to the marketing spin they are trying to use..

Right... I think they should not use the Derren name to promote the book!

When I read THEY want to ban it, I thought maybe some legal organization. But Brown's people wanting to ban it---big deal. I agree with what was said here this stuff can be found elsewhere. But advertisement is meant to at least get people to look---so good job there.

But for a non-mentalist like myself who still would like to be aware of some techniques, looks like a good buy....for someone new to the field wouldn't this $20. bring you more info about mentalism than T&R??

Ireland,
You would probably be better served by one of the classics. They are tried and tested. They would give you a much more solid foundation than this little collection I would imagine. By the classics I mean 13 Steps, Practical Mental Magic, Mind Myth and Magick, and hosts of others that get mentioned in almost every thread.

Yes pearljamjeff, I agree with you. I think for who start in mentalism the classic are absolutely important. Corinda,Waters, etc.. are great for inspiration and learning. The problem that most of "young" magician/mentalist found the easy way buyng pdf like this where thay can find the easy way to learn concept wich should to be reserved for people with more experience in our field.

Just my opinion. But for me the most important point is: Do you are happy with the masked magician show? I believe this book is just the same. Also, imagine a layman saying, "I'm not a magician myself but I would like to be aware of some techniques" so the masked magician show is good. Maybe (or maybe not) they have watch the Derren Browns shows and they want to make money exposing it or at last what they believe he makes in this book. Which permission of who? Or what about the website exposing the Copperfield effects? At least they don't make you pay for get them... And this kind of material is like the bones of the hole effects. Brown's shows are good for the wonderful created, scripted, worked... but also for the presentations, the set, how is filmed, music and credibility. We hope from our spectators not look for the secrets, and enjoy being astonished by us. But we don't do they same when we are confronted to astonishment... |

I have the stuff from Subliminalpersuasion.co.uk. It's simply not worth it. Some of it is only how he believes Brown did things, and he's wrong in a number of cases.

That's not the only site on the net trying to make some money by revealing "the most guarded secrets" at the moment. Sadly there are still people falling for the "almost banned" or "limited time offer" marketing trash.
Reminds me of one book trying to reveal Copperfield secrets, a few years ago, that "almost wasn't published because of no publisher wanting to be related with that hot stuff." |
