Hi all. I'm on a flying weeks visit from England to Halifax, NB, in April and I was wondering if there were any magic supply shops I could visit whilst I'm in Halifax. I'll also be spending a few days near Saint John and wondered if there was anything magical there too. I thought this might be the best place to ask!
Thanks! Jon |

Hello Jon,
I hope you enjoy Halifax. It is not a large city, but has some fun to offer. As to a magic shop, I believe the closest Canadian brick and mortar magic shop is about 800 kilometers (or about 500 miles) west of Halifax in the Montreal area. Hank Lee's in Boston is closer (about 660 km/410 miles), but longer to get to by car (about 1060 kilometers/660 miles) because Nova Scotia is a large penninsula. There may be something in the Quebec City area, but that is only going to shave a couple of hundred kilometres off of the journey at best. Unfortunately for your visit, Canada being such a large and relatively underpopulated country, you may not get to visit some of the places you'd like. Perhaps our east coast magi can tell you of some hidden gem(s) to seek out. Best of luck. |

If I understand you correctly, you are visiting Halifax, Nova Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick (about 400 km or 250 miles apart by car, and in different provinces). I'm assuming that you are not visiting St. John's, Newfoundland. Even people from Canada have difficulties differentiating between Saint John and St. John's, so I hope you'll excuse my mentioning the possibility.
I envy you your trip to Halifax. I moved away from Halifax last year and miss it quite a bit. I particularly miss the members of the IBM ring there. There are no dedicated magic shops in Halifax. There is a costume shop, Glow Parties, that (as of a year ago) sold a few magic bits and bobs. In Saint John, there is a magician who runs a website called Zap Magic, but I don't believe there's a real store involved. However, I can't swear that there is no shop in Saint John as I've never lived there. There is both a listing and map of Canadian magic shops on my website if that's of any use to you: magicinfo.ca really just exists to catalog magic vendors in Canada. It mentions both Glow Parties and Zap Magic. I hope you enjoy your trip to Atlantic Canada. I'd love to be back there now myself!
I formerly ran a site of links to help Canadian magicians, magicinfo.ca, but I retired it in 2022.

Away to Nova Scotia Jon.
I love Nova Scotia especially Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail. Now that is something magical to explore. Sorry it sounds like a travel commercial but it's true. Eric |

Hey, thanks you guys. Yes, I will be visiting Saint John, NB, as well as Halifax. Sorry, didn't realise Halifax was in Novia Scotia. Lesson learned!
So no magic shops there? Hmmm, sounds like there's a business opportunity there then... lol. Appreciate your help, cheers all. Jon |

Jon, if you found a magic shop in halifax, you will be my best friend (I live three hours away and I go every month, as well as I'm moving up later this year).
Also, when will you be down? you might be able to catch a metting at the local IBM ring also: dgcuff; have we met? I went to the club last year. |

I live in truro and have been to halifax lots of times they have a magic "club" there, no magic shops, chapters has books. there's a place in truro, where I live which is 45 mins away from halifax that deals some magic stuff but not much. I get most of my material online. I don't think there is a place in all of nova scotia for magic stuff someone correct me if I'm wrong.
