Sorry, when people use the word "virtual" when discussing video, I tend to put the video into the category of Special Effects.
Tell you what, I've got mixed feelings on the brick video. But I will be nice and not say what those emotions are. Tony Iacoviello |

I meant it is this sense.
virtually Main Entry: vir·tu·al·ly Pronunciation: \ˈvər-chə-wə-lē, -chə-lē; ˈvərch-wə-lē\ Function: adverb 1 : almost entirely : nearly 2 : for all practical purposes <virtually unknown> |

Just downloaded and watched this. I like the method! Very common gimmick yet quite devious. The gimmick is readily available just about everywhere. I almost guarantee you have one in your house at this very moment. Well...most of you.
The set-up is easy to do and can be done very inconspicuously. I had no problem performing this with a cup and a deck of cards 10 minutes after watching the instructions. The method works great for just about any object you can think of, but not a Chihuahua, or a loaf of bread. This would make a great follow up to Shudder, as this is hands-off. Yes, it can be performed close-up and surrounded. You could even borrow the object to be moved, it is completely un-gimmicked. Lastly, there is really no clean-up to do after the effect. And NO, I was not put off in the least that the brick was not taught. It is a very easy application of the principle taught. If you can't figure out how to do the brick after watching the video, you need to turn in your thumbtip and take up knitting as a hobby. A big Thank You to Dan Hauss and Paper Crane!

The brick is not Practical or realistic, in any way.
Watch the video. The entire brick slides. It doesn't tip- it slides. This is not possible with one gimmick. Impossible. I've tried it with a number of bricks, and a single 'gimmick' of varying sizes - some So Large they're plainly visible. It does however slide with three largeish gimmicks. The term special effects does seem to resonate with Me, too. |

The brick thing strikes me as too gimmicky or special effects laden. The more realistic feeling PK effects have always involved things that seem less disconnected from what people know can really happen. A good presentation can capitalize on audience thoughts like, "It takes little to move a pen under normal conditions--maybe, just maybe, people can control energy enough to influence its movement without physical touch if they concentrate enough." The same with bills, paperclips, etc. I think a brick would be far harder for an audience to rationalize even with a great presentation.
Added later--just watched Jim's, he does a great job with his version, and I think can sell his presentation to an audience well. Perhaps a brick effect would need multiple phases like his version to be believable.
Some people hear voices.. Some see invisible people.. Others have no imagination whatsoever.

I guess I need to slow down a bit when reading Café messages! Thanks much for the correction and please accept my apologies! (I'll see if I can delete my confused post.)

Hi MentaThought,
No need for apologies. I've misinterpreted posts in the past and surely will in the future Regards, Steve
