There are a TON of CMS (Content Management Systems) out there and I agree that to each their own. As for me for the few remaining sites (I have over 30 sites) I have I am the process of moving them ALL to Wordpress platform for all the reasons commented on thus far. – Just a personal and professional choice and one I have been counseled to do as well… EVEN by the guy that BUILT my last CMS system for me. (Which works flawlessly!)
Love all the insights here… thanks! Dean <><

I'll agree with Wordpress, I love it. I use it for
the magic marketing center and I am transitioning my magic show sites to it now. I have used Joomla and it does enable some pretty amazing sites. One thing I would re-affirm is the need to keep your installation current. Also, follow the guidelines on protecting your site from hacks. I was managing a Joomla site and it got hacked big time and it was a total nightmare to fix. Wordpress seems to me a bit safer, but still follow some basic security guidelines when installing and running your site. Where we went afoul with Joomla was with an open source plugin, which I'm certain included an exploitable backdoor to the database. Do a search on "Securing Wordpress" and take a peek at some of guidelines. --J

Great info.
Speaking of security, the plugins I always install: Akismet Spam filter WP-DB-Backup Emails me a backup of the SQL database each night. This way backups are taken care of and I never give it another thought. WP-Security-Scan This checks to make sure file permissions are set, scans to see what vulnerabilities (if any) you have and tells you how to fix them. WP-Super-Cache Helps to speed up the server by setting up cache files for the users. |

Scott..
I only design sites when someone beggs LOL I barley have time to work on my own site much less design sites for others.. I actually am a SEO / SEM coach and consultant and maintain sites and build blog teams for companies but that's a real job and what I do so I can stay sharp... I am a full time entertainer and do that about 8hrs a week.. but yeah.. I highly suggest Wordpress as your CMS.. it gives you the flexibility of being static (or the appearance of) or totally dynamic.. not only that it gives you web 2.0 ability think of it this way Web 1.0 was you marketing to your clients totally on your terms.. Web 2.0 is interacting with your clients and potentials on their terms.. and this is done through RSS primarily and wordpress does this out of the box.. and with plugins you become a self propagating marketing machine.. then if you can learn to write "LINK MAGNET" posts your site becomes a powerhouse of authority which leads to more clicks and calls.. because SEO / SEM isn't about Page Rank, it isn't about TRAFFIC.. it's about how much more went into the bank account (IT'S ABOUT CONVERSION) and A Strong CMS lets you split test content , keywords, and other things to optimize conversion example.. you rank #1 for "Bubbas Magic Show" but there are only 2 searches a YEAR for that term.. umm No traffic = no sales... so that's a bad keyword you rank #1 on "Sleigh of Hand" = A ton of magicians will find your site and you get to brag that your #1.. good job you made no money cause of Jargon you rank #3 for "Atlanta Birthday Party entertainment", you get 100 hits a month and 50 phone calls... CONGRATZ you have bad page rank (cause who really cares about publishes page rank its 3 to 12 weeks old anyway) but your making money... and a SOLID CMS will let you manipulate text, title tags, meta description tags and so on, so that you can move your rankings around... But like any other tool its only good if you use it.. if you don't split test your content , keywords, linking strategy (PPC will allow you to test keyword conversion without rewriting content 1st) then it doesn't really matter what you do or use.. I love how wordpress allows me to do all the little things I am rambling on about and with the countless plugins out there and RSS abilities the possibilities are ENDLESS..
its ok.. balloon dogs don't bite
