I've never known a company that had that kind of commitment to me or any of my colleagues. We are always brought in on a contract. They sell this as a 'contract to hire.' The reality is that no one ever gets hired, they just keep you there indefinitely on the contract asking you for more and more until they destroy your career and then push you out the door as soon as they think they found a cheaper option. I've been through this twice, first with a group of 20 others and again with a group of 10, none were ever hired. Even now the media is preaching education as the remedy to your situation. They expect you to believe that the reason you call Dell tech support and get connected to a guy in India, is because no one here is educated enough to get the job done. Now we see the reality is that no amount of education will help. There is a never ending supply of cheap labor in third world countries, and we are in a bidding race to the bottom. The laws of supply and demand are therefor inapplicable. To feed the flames, American universities are creating dumbed down graduate programs that cater to students from overseas. These guys can't fail! I still remember the graduate students digging through the trash in the computer lab for my waste code. We are not offshoring jobs, we are offshoring job categories. I tuck my son in at night and say, 'You can be anything in the world, as long as it's a doctor, lawyer, or nurse.' |
