I just happened upon a copy of Profession Magic for Amateurs by Walter Gibson and am quite surprised it's not mentioned more often. Great stuff in there. Covers a very wide range of effects. My only complaint is that the effects aren't credited.

Seeing this thread, it looks like 'under rated' is being equated with 'not well known', most of the time.
It is better to be trusted than liked.
