Doug,
You mentioned the 3 bull act, and the 20 bull act. I have a Chritmass card of the Long Mount with Donnie oakie carr I received in 1992 from the miller /Byrd families. Once you witnessed the LONG MOUNT on Carson & Barnes you NEVER forgot it. Thanks Doug for the detailed reports of the show and the great photos, we all appreaciate them. I will e mail you the Long Mount photo Doug. Thanks ROD |

Yes, the menagerie was huge. a black Rhino, giraffe, etc. DR also had one of the greatest cat acts on the road at that time, under trainer PATRICIA WHITE, who by the way came from here... Michigan Her family had White's Jewelry in Clare, Michigan a little town about 80 miles North of me. When Carson & Barnes Played Clare back in the 80's, there was a real celebration in town that day!! With an old time circus parade.

Great photo of Pat White. Those cats received the best of care ..ALWAYS! When the lights dimmed and the spotlight was on pat as she made her entrance into the steel cage, to the beat of the jungle drums...it was poetry in motion...Beauty and the beasts! A CLASS ACT!!!

Now Doug first Circus, then J. Dunham, now Sesame Street Live, are you stalking my career.....lol...I'm glad you had a great time at C&B and hopefully they're making lots of green on the west coast.....Alex is a good buddy of mine from my Ringling Days, he's a helluva funny guy (I understand him better inebriated though then sober...lol) Now you've just got to come east and document the other big show that's out.....no size arguments here please....keep up the good work and remember to always keep it 'tween the ditches!

Glad to here Alex is 'ok'. We GENUINELY laughed (out loud) at his body language and skillful moves and 'takes'...I haven't done that in many many years since the old Ringling super clowns. Kelly and Jacobs and the great walk arounds and bits of biz with big props. It surprised me to see a clown of that calibur still working.
Very impressive and worth the whole show. You were Seseme Live???? We last saw the show a few years ago and it was just plain terrific stuff. The costuming and sets were pristine and the talented cast 1st notch. Can't wait to see the new show. I'd love to shoot another show. Now that I have this new camera I have the itch for sure. I only have ONE photo of my old clown days...boy does that suck. Maybe I ought to put on the suspenders again...hahaha. :) Saw Pat years ago with Vargas. Just doesn't get anybetter than that act... absolutely gorgeous on every level. That year of vargus (95 or 96) was the best small one ringer ever. All the acts were Center ring worthy. No camera at that time unfortunately.

Oh ok...yeah...White cats. Thanks for the correction. Wasn't that a great show!!! Who was the guy on the slack wire? (comedy)
Also that show had a person do a neat Human/Doll thingamajig out of a box. The Wife loved that act! Me too. That was also a special show in that we were able to just walk around the corner to attend. I clearly remember Pat's name and seeing her though...hmmm...what years was she with C&B? She worked Ringling as well??

The Slackrope guy was Hungarian, Nice Guy (cannot recall his name) The "Doll" act was Russian Nice folks (can't recall their names either) Pat was on C & B for over 10 years till about "89 then she went to Europe and Japan and worked a "Mixed act" for Clubb, Her and I were a "Item" for 3 years at Hawthorn till I took the Sideshow on the Fair circuit...She did not want to be a Carny...I had to make a Living ...She is now in South Africa working Cats...We remain freinds.. she was never on RBBB...

Doug, I always thought That "Circus Vargas" under Cliff Vargas was the Finest Tent show I ever saw in my Life...By the time I worked there,Cliff had died and Roland Kaiser made a Excellent 1-ring European style show, after being Closed for a few years , Rolands step-Daughter and her Husband revived Vargas a couple of years ago...However, Circus Vargas under Cliff ruled So.Cal..L.A. and S.D.was the Only place in the U.S.A. you could ask a Kid to name a Circus, and their reply ALWAYS would be Circus Vargas, RBBB never had the respect in So. Cal.(until after Cliff Died) that Vargas held (Under Cliff)...I always found that fact amazing...

Yep...Slackwire (rope) was an east Euro...same guy...great act, funny and amazing stunt work. (OUCH!) It was a remarkable show and a dazzler.
I would have seen Pat with C&B then in the mid 80's. If I recall it was Carson City NV. My Daughter probably remembers though she and I traveled far and wide in those days. The new 'no animal' Vargas looks pretty anemic. We passed when they were here (which I regret) so we'll try and catch them in Orange in May. RBBB was the big one when I was growing up (before rope) in Madison Square Garden...but since I've seen them over the past decade and a half or so...it hasn't been a butt patch on the old shows. Of course the expense must be a real breaker running a railroad show these days but they still make some odd choices in the productions.
