Chalet tubes are aluminum I believe. Illusions by your Design made tubes from aluminum as well but could pack flat. Owens uses aluminum for their Geometric illusion as well I think.
Iron sounds really heavy... sure it is not stainless steel. You can have tubes remade with 2mm thick aluminum that should be relatively easy to handle. Or you can contact Smokey Mountain Magic and see if Dan will make you a set. I'm sure he would. |

Chalet tubes were made from either plastic or metal. Dan Wolfe at Smokey Mt. Magic makes them from a different type of plastic that seems to be more durable. He made me a new set, so I woulc contact him.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

Chalet made the MKZ tubes from many different materials over the years:
PVC - They developed stress fractures over time and were discontinued Wood - Thicker than they wanted and prone to cracking on the unsupported end Aluminum - Worked well until the materials got expensive...easily bent, though Galvanized Steel - This is what the last Chalet tubes were made from...kind of heavy and like the aluminum, were easily dented or bent out of shape Clinton is right. Our tubes are thermoformed from ABS plastic; no paint to scrape off, won't dent or distort and about 1/3 the weight of the old Chalet tubes. Hope I've helped! Dan Wolfe |
