I am new to manipulation. I own this set which is like a foam rubber ball. Should the balls be treated with some kind of adhesive or something to make it easier to control?
The surfaces are so smooth that it is difficult to transfer ball from gimmick to first finger position (I hope this makes sense.) Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure it's not dry hands. As the old saying goes, "It's not the arrow...it's the Indian!

Go to a bowling alley and get some SURE GRIP. It is hard to use silks well with it on your hands. Cordially,Howard

Sure grip will help, there is also "manipulation lotion" available from some dealers. The main thing you will probably require is practice. Before rubber and plastics became so popular, all multiplying balls were made of wood (including the shell)with a painted slick finish. It just took practice to keep from dropping them. (It will also help if you get some of the smaller sets - I find the 2" balls are hard to use with my small hands.)

Rinse the balls in warm water and then squeeze them out. The little bit of extra water that stays in them will give you the grip you need, and you will have cleaned the balls at the same time. As your practice progresses, you will not need to do this as often since your hands will become accustomed to the balls.
