I understand where you are coming from and can see how many can take advantage of the popularity.
Personally, I refuse to limit myself by putting the perception of me as a copy of a cartoon on television. My image is under my control, not the control of a group of writers and producers in Hollywood or their commercial interests. When people hire me, they get me, not a copy of someone or something else. Tony |

Exact tony,
I agree with you. I didn't say you have to copy. I said you have to keep in mind that in people minds these guys are what is known as "mentalists". you have to be prepared to the assimilation. and then you make the choice for yourself. but you have to be prepared to define yourself "with it" or "against it", or anything in between. just be prepared. but I never said to copy. but if someone tells me that I'm not doing the same as Criss Angel, I am prepared for that. because I put some thaught into it. hope it clarifies my view. :) |

"Lie to Me" is a better show and seems more realistic to me. Of course, that might be because my father has worked with Paul Ekman and is a human lie detector. Some of his techniques are actually used (and explained) in the show.
"The Mentalist" is entertaining, but not in a thought-provoking way. The plots are ridiculous and seem to have been written by someone with very little real knowledge about mentalism techniques. Of course, that may be a good thing. |

I suppose the show is a typical crime drama but the reason I watch it is for it's portrayal of mentalism and not for how engaging it is or isn't. As it happens, I still find it to be an amusing and enjoyable show. I kind of wish I knew the method to the Rock Paper Scissors thing though
I don't know how well versed the creators of the show are with mentalism, I am curious as to how they did their research. |

Drew, I searched for the script online, but I don't see any extra lines. Did you get another version somewhere ?

This subject has been discussed before here, so as I said on a previous forum I love the show because the director makes the actors really do the signs and gestures that the mentalist is supposed to read using NLP and non verbal communication, even though he doesn’t explain what he is doing like in "Lie to me", where the main actor always explains his cold readings.

I can't watch Lie To Me. The guy tried to give his characters quirks and he is iritating now. When he hears something and turns his head like a dog trying to understand something I want to punch the screen. I do like the Mentalist, Castle, and the king of all...Psych
