What do magician do when they get bored? Practice vanishes with several coins, that's what. Tell me what you think...

TOO MANY good ROVs are spoiled by immediately palming or transferring the coin. Put some time between the put and the next action. And yes, you were moving a bit fast.
But that's the percieved distance as during a live performance. So if you have to move closer for us to see what's going on, it means you are moving too fast ! Scott. |

If you were really just going to put the coin in your other hand, would you make that big of an action? It's not a big deal, don't highlight the move; all you're doing is putting it in the other hand.

I thought your vanishes looked pretty good, and I like what you did before the MP.
Your last vanish brought confusion to me...as I thought at first..."what is he vanishing". I had to watch it twice...this is probably where you were moving to fast. Not the vanishes, but your routining and handling seemed to suffer as the coin got bigger. On the biggest coin I was distracted by some extra movement.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Just as a side note to clear some things up, this video is solely for PRACTICE - nothing more. I just wanted to see how my technique of the actual ROV looked; I wasn't aiming for celerity per say.

It seemed like a descent vanish followed by poor technique immediately afterward which ruined it overall. I hope you also saw that when you watched it yourself.
One small, seemingly insignificant movement can ruin the whole thing. The devil is in the details. If that's the lesson you learned then you're well on your way. If you shrugged it off, that's as good as it will ever get.

Keep practising, you are a long way off from a good RV.

It looks like you have quite a bit of finger motion immediately after the put, when you try to get it into a palm position. Try separating the hands, wait a beat, then palm it. I only mention this because I saw a friend of mine get busted by spectators doing what you are doing--palming immediately after the retention pass. The spectator actually said: "are you trying to palm?" I felt very bad for him.
Keep up the practice! Evikshin |

I once saw a tape to me from Mickey Silver where he did the Retention Vanish over and over and over again. It wasn't meant as a presentation but more as a demonstration or display. But each time he did it, it was powerful, beautiful and amazing.
I think Uriel's take here had some good stuff in it and I'm sure he doesn't string RV after RV together like that in an effect. He's clearly got the thing working well enough, just needs to fine-tune it some as to movement, then don't think about it and just do the thing. When you truly understand why the RV works then you know most of it is in the mind's eye of the spec. That is that it happens most from within him or her. The magi just has to present it, just as Mickey Silver himself impressed upon me long ago. I would dare say that Mickey Silver is a Master when it comes to this.
