I don't care if I know the moves. When they are well done, it's still inspiring.
I certainly wouldn't talk about the moves on a public forum. When you learn about magic you can go one of two ways: 1. If you have a weak personality, then you become the type who goes to a magic show and rolls your eyes because you know how all the devices are made and where all the spongeballs are stashed. You ruin magic for yourself and everyone around you. You become... A killjoy. 2. You learn the routines and develop a different level of appreciation for watching them executed by a master. Slydini was a master.

To be frank with you, I don't think I need to elaborate.

Amazing. I have a predisposition against flurries. I would much rather watch a one coin routine that moves organically with clear magical moments, as Slydini does there, than the (seemingly) confusion-for-confusion's-sake of a one coin flurry. If I can learn anything from a clip like this, it is to slow down, let the audience catch up so that they can actually CONNECT with the moments, so that the magic can actually mean something to them (more than the look-what-I-can-do juggling of much coin magic).

To me, when watching another magician perform a routine or move that I'm familiar with, I enjoy seeing how well the moves are executed, how they flow into each other. My friend/mentor Buddy Farnan comes by my art studio often and when he does coin moves I've seen him do 100's of times, I'm still amazed at the fluidity in his hands. He's one of the best. And what difference does it make what techniques you use as long as you successfully put a smile and look of astonishment on a spectators face? I watch Tim's videos over and over because I like seeing how well he executes his moves. Great magic is like Andy Grifith reruns......just never gets old.......thanks, Glen

The Dick Cavett/Slydini specials were what really got me into close-up magic. When I saw these back in the mid 70's, I had no idea what he was doing. I thought it was amazing then and it is still amazing now.
I don't often find myself in a position where I can do a performance sitting down, but when I do, I always do the one coin routine. Also, the principles behind the routine are still usefull even if you don't have the opportunity to lap. |

I'm simply shocked to find anything that would say Slydini was anything short of a master. Without him, a lot of the stuff that we're doing today wouldn't be what it is.
Kudos. Loved the video. |

Didn't Justin Kredible reveal lapping to laymen not long ago on a tv show he had running on cable tv?
