Is there any magic using dogs? If not, what are your ideas concerning them? How could they be used?

If you look back a year or so in here, you will find a number of posts about dogs in magic. If you cannot find it, search my posts as I made a number about my ex- assistant, a K-9, and you can get to the right area in that manner.

My dog is a border collie-blue healer and if you spread a deck of cards he will paw 1 then take it with his mouth.

I have seen several shows where magicians use their dogs. If trained well, I think they look great! But, if just used as a production item and quickly taken off stage, I think that it looks cheap.
Murray Hatfield http://www.MurrayHatfield.com uses a dog in his act and it looks great! Also Dan Birch, http://www.DanBirch.com uses a dog, and he too makes it look great! Cecil Lewis, http://www.CecilsMagic.com uses his dog in a levitation, as well as a production, and a card trick! I think that they can be a great addition to the show!

Also, Steve Wyrick in Vegas does an effect where he has 2 dogs in boxes (white and black) on opposite sides of the stage they begin to move into each other slowly and then the boxes just interlock and a dalmation leaves the empty boxes. Great illusion

Yes, dogs can be used. We have been performing illusions with dogs for the past ten years or so. We have three Samoyeds, two Miniature American Eskimos and a Border Collie.

I saw a act at Abbott's many years ago with a big white dog named (I believe) Andre. All I remember is that they did the super x levitation with him lying on the board.

Andre and the Madsen brothers. It was a very large white poodles. It was a good gimmick at the time but the act is very dated for today's audiences.

I use a dog in my show and he has become the star of the show. If in Florida come see the show with Disney the Dog on Monday nights at Wonder Works in Orlando.
