I'm sure I could find this out if I looked, but I'm lazy. My grandmother is moving into a home in Ohio, and there are two shotguns and a rifle at the house. I am going back there next month to help with the move. What is the best way to ship them back to California? Can they be checked as baggage on the plane?

Fire arms can be checked baggage but they have to be declared first and unloaded etc... I'm not sure what paper what (If any) has to be filled out however. Check with the airline your planning to use they will tell you what you have to do etc...

Yeah Santa, notice the "legally" part of the thread. It would be though to walk thru the airport with a shotgun stashed down each pant leg.

If you're shipping them you'll have to find an FFL dealer to do it. Most will charge a nominal fee per firearm (or shipment).
You can fly with them also. As for shipping them to California...I'm not sure if you can ship guns from the United States of America to another country. :) Robert

Don't use USPS as they only will allow shipments between licensed dealers. FedEx is the only way to go as only one party has to be licensed, if allowed by local law, (which it is in Kalifornia). Also, regardless of the shipment, all agencies require it to be shipped overnight. It's pretty easy to ship, just attach the dealers license (copy) in the envelope with the shipping label.
Good luck.

You'll have a declaration card to fill out. Leave that in the gun case. Make sure your guns are unloaded and any ammo is secured. (Check with the airlines for their ammo requirements) Flying with your gun isn't a big deal. Just don't try to do it in New York (or even fly THROUGH). New York is 2nd Amendment Enemy #1. They have a history of blatantly ignoring Federal Firearm Laws in order to arrest and prosecute people who fly with checked firearms.
