There's a lot to love about Oregon, but the beer's right near the top of the list.

That is very true. I am from Oregon, but now have lived in Australia for the last three and a half years. Finally going back for a visit in two weeks. I will definately be enjoying the beer while I am there!

I love my country and my state, but we have yet to concoct a beer as fantastic as Germany's "Spaten: Optimator."
Pike Kilt Lifter is pretty good though.

I drank a beer 34 years ago. At the time, I thought this has to be the worst tasting substance that has ever passed my lips. It took me more than 2 hours to choke it down. That was my first and last experience with it. I don't know how you guys can stand the stuff. Of course, my wife can't understand how I can drink coffee or tea.

Wait, let me correct myself. I mean production beers.
My friend Edith makes her own home brew that beats the socks off of anything I have ever bought at a store, including my beloved Optimator.

Critter, send me some.
I promise to give a fair review of Edith's beer. I promise. PM me for my address. I'd hate to kill you. |

I wish it was that easy for me to get. She makes small batches and only breaks them out at parties at their house. Same with her boyfriends absinthe.

With the exception of a few micro-brews I've had. I think most American beer is really untolerable. I'm talking mostly about the big companies. If you want beer done right, you have to go to Europe. Franziskaner, Spaten, Grolsch, Bass and Guiness.

Pepka, do you know my Gettysburg story? Where I passed out in a bar and ended up spending the night in the hospital?
I was drinking some kind of Harrisburg micro-brew. I didn't take to it well. Tasted like vomit. One might conjecture I was already ill and that my taste buds were affected. But the Sam Adams I started drinking to clear my palate tasted just fine. So I'm pretty sure it was the Troegs that did it. True story. |

The majority of mass produced US beers are lagers. As we all know, they go best with spicy curry.

Sam Adams Cream Stout
Can't get it here anymore, the distributer can't be bothered.

If you like stouts, try Obsidian Stout from Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon. It's very dark and very, very tasty.
