So, I'm thinking about adding the classic Anderson Paper Tear back in my act for the summer. It's been some time since I performed it and I was curious what others are using as far as the gimmick goes. Years ago I used some thin aluminum to fabricate the gimmick. Am I on the right track??
I'll have to dig the book out again .. man did I hate folding that thing up! Steve |

You can use aluminum or wire.
Or just get Axel's Newsflash newspaper tear. Probably the best torn and flash restored newspaper method at the moment. |

Steve,
I use florist wire which is neither too thin or too thick. My instructions are actually in French (I don't know where I picked them up form) and that is what they recommend. It works well, is easy to make the form initially and bends correctly during performance. I have seen Axel's performance live many times (I had a stand opposite him at a convention in Germany!) and the effect is superb, although I haven't actually played with this particular version. |

I just bought the Axel's Newsflash Newspaper Tear and I must say, sincerely, in my opinion, that is the best version on this classic until now.

I'm fine with the "old school" method .. this is what I'm use to. I found the old manuscript that Magic Inc. put out years ago. I'll read through it when I get a chance.

If you go to a real old-fashioned hardware store, then ask for "stove-pipe wire". It's still available and a roll will last a long, long time. I've been doing this regularly since the seventies and and am still on my second roll of wire.
Floral wire will work, just keep keep in mind that it comes in various thicknesses. Find the right one and it will be fine. (Refer to the above paragraph.) By the way, once you are prepared to set up Anderson's Tear, it shouldn't take you more than five minutes to prepare it. I also agree that Axel's Newsflash is great. So is Jimmy Ray's, Harbin's, Potassy's and several more. Pick the one that works for you and rip away. Enjoy, Carl |

I had them all including Newsfalsh the best is simplicity Gene Anderson Newstear using the jimmy ray's set up . The wire you need is at Home Depot will last for many many performances .
