Good thing I can't read. Wait a minute... how do I know what I just typed...?
I wouldn't know what to do with a thousand books. So don't use Whiteout if you see mistakes? Do they make a Braille Kindle? I've actually never tried to use a Kindle, Nook, or any other e-reader device, can they zoom by touch (with two fingers), like a iPhone or other new smart phones? Do they have a text to speech feature, so they can read themselves to you? |

WOw, been reading reviews for two days. Seems Nook 3G is being discontinued. I would like to pick up emails and read them free but I hear the web browser is lousy on these gadgets. Sure I have a netbook but it has only wi fi. But I do want to read books so its Nook 3G or Kindle 3G. Better then reading on a little cell phone I would imagine.

I have the knidle app for my phone and I like merely just OK. I've read perhaps 10 or 15 books on it. Great for reading on the bus.
The DRM is rather restrictive, though -but this seems to be the way of the future; the reader's loss, I guess... Very obscure titles are almost never available, which is unfortunate, as this is where so much of my interest lies. My wife has an actual Kindle 2. She flat out loves it.

Exactly. Rare books just don't make it to these gadgets. Plus, I got an eReader to save money on school books and most of them aren't even available on these things. Over freakin' hyped.

I really enjoy my generic Nook. Great prices on curent best sellers. Can even swap with other people for a time.
But I also do still purchase books. Usually paperbooks at yard sales. At the local yard sales you can get paperbcks for 4 or 5 for a dollar. I really am cheap, and easy.
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

And if you look at the price curve over time for the Kindle device, you will see that it looks like they will be available for next to nothing, or even nothing to "Amazon Prime" customers by the end of the year . . .

Definitely not for me - I love the tactile aspects of holding a book in my hands and being surrounded by them in my home. (But I don't like dusting them.) |

Those kids at that high school complained and asked for the school to carry books again.
I have a Kindle and never thought I would like it but I do. Saves on collecting so many novels around the house. Ebooks have risen in price however but I can stockpile my pdfs and notes I need for performing on my Kindle.

I hope to **** that this craze passes and people start buying real books again. I don't want to see any more book stores close.
In addition to real books just being great, bookstores mean something. They are a tangible place for book lovers to go. You can sit in a bookstore Café reading a book, surrounded by other people who love books. OK, sure, you can read the Gadget there with the free WiFi, but it's not the same!

The nice thing abot a kindle, much like the iPod, is if you want a book you just go to your computer and in 2 minutes you have a book.
If I'm sitting around the house at 11 at night and a song pops in my head that I like, I walk over to the computer and I get the song. No waiting until the next day and making a trip to the store hoping they have the CD I want. Or knowing they won't have the CD and having to order it online and wait for it to come. Same with the Kindle. If it's a lousy day, or the stores are closed, or whatever, and you want a book... Chances are you can get it in mere minutes. That's a big plus. |

If they ever get to be friendly enough, I'm looking forward to students replacing their backpacks of books with short-term rentals on an electronic reader.

Unfortunately, most of my textbooks aren't available as eBooks.

Love my Kindle for reading books. Didn't think I'd like it because I don't like reading books on my IPad or computer but the Kindle 'feels' like a book. You almost forget that it's not a book while reading. It's easier to hold than a big fat book and doesn't lose your place. My wife and I goth own one and we can buy one book and both read it at the same time because we can both download it to our own Kindle at the same time.
The negatives. It's not easy to flip through pages to find a spot you want to re-read. You have to move back 1 page at a time or do a search. That's the one part where it doesn't feel like a book. It's not great for PDF's. It can't reformat the PDF so it's generally too small to read unless you use the really clunky magnifying glass. That's why Bob likes the Kindle DX. It's larger screen is much better suited to PDF's. |
