I even got an email saying that "we want to book Zappo the clown" well, why would I get that, Zappo should get that directly. If 1,000 people pay that 2.50 then Eventective makes bank....they do this everyday and we the performers, say...well it is only 2.50 what can it hurt and they reap the rewards.... it is much like the send me a dollar scam. I threatened that they had 24 hours to remove my information or I would look into the possibility of a class action against them as I am aware of many many performers who wonder how their business information was harvested. you can believe that within 5 minutes I had a response from them that my information had been removed from their system. |

If you want the A-list shows,
and you want Top-Dollars… Market and book yourself. Just learn to do it wisely and well. Or have one dedicated agent/manager, who knows you and your work, who you trust. Unless you’re just starting out, don’t bother with these online clearing-houses, you’ll not hit the market or dollars you dream of. My two-cents anyway, Walt |

Eventective seems to be a waste of time for me.
They have a tendency not to really read what the client is looking for before thay send you the request for your $2.50 to buy the lead. And if the lead does fit your profile, you never hear from client after you call and spent the money.

I'm going to defend Eventective one way or the other, but I will say I've landed two gigs since I signed up a couple of weeks ago. To me it was no different than trying to decide between any of the other listing sites and weighing the pros and cons. 2 bucks for a lead? Come on, that's no big deal. There's another active tread right now in this section of the Café for a brand new internet listing service for magicians that people can sign onto for upwards of $160 per month - and the site has no track record what-so-ever, and people are signing up!
The other thing is that I don't see where they're raking in 1000's from each lead as mentioned earlier in this thread. Some of the leads I've asked about only had two or three other people that had paid for the lead (the site shows you how many people have paid for the lead in your expertise), so in reality they made less that $10. It's just part of my marketing budget. Yes, some of the leads are really off in left field, but overall it's not really that expensive to get some contact information. I'm in for a year. I've paid to be on some other sites and haven't gained by one cent to be with them. To be honest, I think most of these listing sites are crap shoots. They're good at getting people like you and me to sign up for them (which is where the money is for them), but not really good at getting potential customers to know that they are out there. What caught my interest in this one is that it mixes a bunch of services together that someone planning a party might be interested in. It makes the client aware of things they might not have thought of for their party - kind of one stop shopping. To me, that was an interesting approach to a listing service instead of one that is 'just magicians.' For the 'what its worth' file. Just my two cents worth. Not affiliated in anyway. It's already paid for itself for me. |

Glad you have received a booking from them. I am still waiting for my first but their refund policy if you do not hear from the client goes back in the pot. I have spent $12 which is recycled. I called one client in AZ and they even emailed me when they went with other entertainment.

I've booked a gig through them before. I've also had a 2 or 3 other leads from them that never responded to email or phone messages. Gigmasters.com and Gigsalad.com are better though.

That is a great result for $2.50 Michael. Still waiting on my first gig with them. I don't spend a lot of time, I just send an email or sometimes call them and offer them an entertainment option.

It's an old thread...but it seems Eventective are still up and running. My problem with their rather questionable operation is that they have listed thousands of businesses without asking permission. IF, by some chance, a client who knows your act, sees your name there, they may assume that this is the way to contact you. Perhaps they're surfing the web for entertainers, and when they see your name on this website, a little bulb lights in their heads and they remember you.
But you may likely be unaware of this, and decide not to pay the $2.50, and so never respond to the enquiry. Of course, this will reflect badly on you as a business person. It won't happen often, but I bet it does happen. If they list your details, they should provide a direct link to your website, to allow clients to contact you directly. If their directory is successful, they can make an income from advertising banners. I have no problem with directories who advertise me and provide my website link in this way, as clients will only contact me directly, and not through another business. and it gives my website a backlink, which is fine by me. We have a new service in the UK which asks for a 15% booking fee up front (which they keep). Only after paying this fee can the clients access your website and contact details. There's an online diary to avoid double-bookings. I've decided I don't want to be associated with this service, as it's always best to discuss an event with clients before asking for any kind of payment. |

I gave them $25 to get a 10% discount.
here is the funny part: My money dissapeared the very next week, and it is impossible to get ahold of anyone there. I even contacted the dude that said he would give Café members a $25 credit, and still no response. |

Thank you for your comments.
There are different perspectives on what works for vendors depending on past experience with lead providers, the types of services they offer and their sales and marketing budgets. A listing on Eventective complements your other sales and marketing activities and gives you exposure to the 1.2 million people visiting Eventective each month to locate venues and vendors for their events. The leads that are generated from these visitors are genuine and entered by the planners on our site. They are manually approved before they are sent to providers in order to discourage false requests and users who are under the age of 18. We have limited control over the nature of the person completing a request, how serious they are and how responsive they may be. Planners may be in the beginning stages of planning their events and not respond to vendors right away because they are trying to finalize other details such as the venue. We encourage vendors to follow-up with planners and use their Eventective inbox to respond. Internet lead purchases can be a numbers game, but Eventective does take some of the risk out of it with our refund policy. It often takes purchasing 20 or more leads to get a sense of the market and the response to your emails. We can offer you several tips for setting lead filters, reviewing leads for the best fit and suggesting a process for responding to leads to maximize success. Please do not hesitate email us at cs@eventective.com with any questions. |
