Im looking for what might play well for 9 year old boys ( twins ) birthday party... Would they follow short card routines or any mentalism?

Mentalism I prefer the Magic Bear color prediction routine.
Child is provided 5 blocks that are different colors. Magician turns his back to child. Use puppet to "peek" over your shoulder. Child puts one color block in bag. You then ask the puppet what he chose or simply read his mind. Everytime you guess the correct color the volunteer has chosen. I paid $55 for mine and it is well worth it. All self working. Very easy to perform. |

Do any routine you would do for adult audiences (minus any innappropriate material of course). Cards, sleights, escapes, coins....it's all good. Don't treat them like 5 year olds. They might just eat you alive lol

I have recently "re"discovered a terrific mentalism effect for children, who ALL know how to play TIC TAC TOE. You'll find it in the MARK WILSON COMPLETE COURSE IN MAGIC, where you play an innocent game of Tic Tac Toe with a volunteer, then open an envelope that has been sitting there (or turn around a square board that has been on display for larger audiences) and show that you predicted where all the Xs and Os would be. Both grids completely match.
I have been playing around with it at work and am now working on a children's routine for a large audience. So simple yet gets a lot of astonished looks. |

Look at Pat Fallon's dvd Magic for Older Children. He uses normal props but puts in stories that explain why he is doing the various tricks. eg Australian girl-friend => tricky bottles; magic colouring of football team strips; snip n skip for restoring cut ropes; Houdini Seanace to cover a few smaller tricks
The patter was almost grown up.. but not quite. I learnt a lot.

Put in a running gag so you hook them till the very end. For nine years old use your magic you use for grown ups. Classic are also fine, chinese sticks, linking rings.
Succes en enjoy your gig! |

I am having a great time with BILL ABBOTTS Smart-Ass. It works whether the kids know their cards or not because they can see a visual match. They love the comedy of throwing cards over their shoulder. trust me it's great. pack small play big.
