Any recommendations for a a good brand of flat black paint? I have a 16 x 20 Bil-Jax portable stage that is mostly used outside. I don't want to have to repaint it for a long time.

I would get an epoxy aircraft or automotive paint. They should be able to custom mix almost any color.

Another option would be One Shot Lettering Enamel. It is pretty expensive, but it is still made with lead, so it will last a long time.

Well, if you never EVER want to paint it again, you might want to look into electrostatic painting. You're in L.A.? Maybe you could take a day trip to Vegas and have these guys paint it for you:

I use a truck bed liner here is one that they just got in to my Lowe's, it seems to work as well or better than previous brands I used, and it costs less
http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=367 each can would probably cover 15-25 square feet depending on how heavy you apply it. they also make it in a brush/roll-on version, I have not used it as it is not available here yet (I hope yet s the right term) just my 2¢ Jason |

Someone (Minwax, maybe?) also makes a non-slip spray paint that might work. I have used it on several illusion bases, and it is very tough.

Look up a paint called Break Through. This is one tough paint that I've used on different applications. It's some new technology that bonds with the surface .. its at most professional paint supply stores. You won't find it at Home Depot ..

I use Porch and Deck Enamel on my outdoor stage. Not as trendy as some of the other suggestions but it works well.

Thanks for the suggestions. My stage has a plywood deck, so the electrostatic painting will not work. I'm familiar with Breakthrough, but I can't find it in LA. A lot of paints are now illegal in LA, including all oil based paints (which a fire marshal wouldn't allow on a stage anyway).
Some of the specialty paints can cost $60 per gallon. I was looking for something more affordable, but durable. The problem is that most commercially available paints are not available in a true flat black. They end up being a dark gray. |
