Does anyone know where to find the order of the most to least commonly named cards?

I found the above with very little effort using the Café Quicksearch. I'm sure you can find more. |

Thank you for the response; however, it says I do not have access to that post. Can you tell me what you searched, and do you know of any books that list what I am asking for?

You can't access that thread because it's in the Secret Sessions forum. You need 50 posts before you can access it. Only 46 more to go!

Good question, I can't access it yet either.
But now, I'm one post closer! |

For magic, I think it's better to see which the most commonly named cards are if you ask them to _not_ think of commonly named cards and make it really hard for you. I'm sure a small group of cards will stand out.

You can find a previous thread of other magicians naming thought-of cards here. I would assume, though, that magicians and card players would pick different cards than laymen.
Banachek covers this idea in Psychological Subtleties. He gives an "up to date" list of about a dozen cards. "Up to date" because there have been others, such as Burling Hull and Dick Barry (mentioned in PS), who have put out similar lists before. I'm sure Kenton Knepper has probably done some work on this, as well; I'd say it's "right up his alley." It's hard to make a definitive list because many factors seem to come into play; age, sex, geographic location, wording of the question, etc. However, the two "universally" known cards for psychological forces are the Ace of Spades and one of the red Queens, usually the Heart. The Sevens and Tens also seem to be called frequently. That being said, and since this is in Magical Equations, the probability is always 1 in 52. That is, of course, if you use a full deck without the Jokers.

When PS1 comes out again in Feb, there will be a much more in-depth study list of most commonly selected cards. It is really amazing the percentages that the top ten come up over the other cards in the deck.

PS1 is out again. There is much expanded information on most selected cards. It includes my research, university research, Brian's Brushwood's research mentioned above and others.
Also there is a difference between most thought of cards and cards thought of from a limited selection.

I guess I have found an answer to my question on where to purchase PS1. Apparently only the "UK" version has been for sale. The "U.S." version should be available during August from dealers in the U.S..

New data on most chosen cards look at all info ... some amazing data .. like the fact it does make a difference in how you ask; 'Visualize a card" Vrs "name a playing card."
