Who supplies thicker than average rope? I'm looking for about 1" thick.

You might try the Royal Navy........Ask for Hawser.
Seriously, I have never seen rope that thick except in marine supply stores. Here are a few places n the UK that you can take a look at. http://www.ropelocker.co.uk/ http://www.euroropesuk.co.uk/

How much of it do you need? Obviously you are not going to cut and restore it.

The thickest rope I've ever seen that has the fluidity required for most magic uses can be had from Ton Onosaka's MagicLand shop in Tokyo. I't about 1/2 or 3/4 inch in thickness, but has the requisite softness. He carries bout three different thicknesses...You'll want the thickest of them all.

It depends on what you're using it for. We use 1 1/4" 3 strand cotten rope all the time but it's stiff and pretty hard to work with. Ton's rope is the thickest and best I've see for magic use.
If you need to cut it, you can get any double braid rope and take out the core. Again, the comments above about marine supply stores is right on the money.

Hank Moorehouse sells some thick, white cotton rope. It's about an inch in diameter.

You want, elite, baroniantrading, I sell loftus and baronian, pretty much a good hollow core rope is nice. Stay away from the boat shops, even if you have used those ropes, it does not compare to the texture and feel of magic rope.

I use a 4/10s inch rope, nylon/synthetic braided boat rope that I decored and it feels smooth and holds its round shape. Lately, I bought two other varieties of braided boat rope about the same thickness as the first. I'm disappointed in them: cotton one feels rough and uncomfortable and when decored, collapsed easily. The synthetic one feels smooth, but also collapses easily. When tied, the collapsed rope looks more like ribbon and does not look good for street magician work. And knots don't undo easily. Next time, I will be cautious. Feel the rope, knot it, then buy 1/2 metre and strip it and see how it generally performs then, before any buying of longer lengths. There's reasons why magicians use Magicians' Rope!
The presentation makes the magic.
