Review: REPERTOIRE VOLUME 1 by Ben Williams
Repertoire Volume 1 is a fantastic PDF manuscript by Ben Williams. I had the pleasure of receiving mine free, but I would have gladly paid the generous price of $20. Ben provides a variety of unique, creative concepts that are easily applicable to any routine. Every effect is clean, simple, and hard-hitting. The PDF is 33 pages long and contains color photographs to go along with the written explanations. Everything is easy to understand and to-the-point. The trick descriptions are available at the beginning of this topic, but you can also find them at Ben’s website: http://www.magicfromtheunderground.com Heartless: 10/10 This is a wonderful little effect that plays big. It is visually stunning and the use of flash paper makes it a real shocker! In addition, it is fairly simple to perform and Ben includes some nice subtleties and variations. DBIB: 9/10 This is a nice “Invisible Deck” type routine. It is extremely easy to perform and gets great reactions. Period. Imitate 1.0, 1.2, 1.3: 7/10 Ben is very creative and offers three versions, all of which are both interesting and visual. Not my favorite effect in the manuscript, but still worthy of a good rating. Your Card My Mouth: 9/10 A great take on the classic “Card to Mouth” effect. I enjoy performing it because every move is simple and justified. It’s a real kicker at the end when the first spectator’s signature appears on the other spectator’s card! Steal: 10/10 I really like this because it allows the magician to cleanly and deceptively steal a selected, signed card. It’s more of a move than a single trick, and it offers endless possibilities for card transposition effects. I Dub Thee/I Dub Thee Mental: 11/10 This is, quite simply, one of the best mentalism effects I have ever come across. It is so easy to perform and, as with all of Ben’s routines, every move is justified. The reactions from this are priceless. Watch My Predictions: 8/10 Nothing revolutionary here, but a powerful effect nonetheless. A nice display of a simple card trick mixed with some of Ben’s creativity! Your Card/Your Card Repeat: 9/10 This is a strong piece of magic that is sure to get great reactions. It is simple and direct, and its use of flash paper really increases the “wow factor.” Very fun to perform. Chain 1.0, 1.2: 8/10 I’m not one for linking card effects, but Chain is a well-thought-out routine that isn’t difficult to perform. If you’re into this type of trick, I am sure you’ll love it! Overall, this is a wonderful manuscript with an abundance of fresh routines and ideas. There is something in here for everyone so it is definitely worth the minimal investment. You won’t be disappointed. Daniel Lachman |

I have had this for about a week now, and while I have not tried everything that is in this, what I have I have been very pleased with.
First off there are 10 effects on this manuscript. That fact alone is a wonderful thing. In this day and age to receive this much material in one shot is a rare thing indeed. So much to look over and play with, but they are not just filler tricks. My favorite so far is Chain. It is a two card linking routine. This one is a simple yet very convincing linkage of two cards that both can be signed. It is not an illusion, the cards are actually linked and hanging. You then unlink them and hand them to the spectator to examine and keep. This got great reactions when I did this for a few friends last night. They had no idea to explain what they saw. Very nice. DBID is another one that I really like. You basically have a spectator name any card they like. You then find that card, and it is the only one with a different back than the rest of the deck, much like an invisible deck. This is very easy to perform, and seems impossible. I also have tried I Dub Thee. This is a very simple mental routine. I don't normally do this kind of stuff, but after watching the reactions I got using this I may try this kind of thing more often. It was a lot of fun. I have not had a chance to try out the rest of material, but I will after I have time to work it out. All in all this is a wonderful read, and very much worth the asking price. Thank you Ben for releasing this! I am very much looking forward to part 2. |

I received this a few weeks back and have been testing a few of the routines out before I commented. First off the notes are great. Very cool art work, straight forward explanations, and great pictures to aid in the learning of the effects.
I went straight for Heartless when I got the notes and I have to say that as easy as this is to perform it really knocks the socks off the spectators. It's such a cool and creative idea. in my personal experience with this effect this one was worth the price of the PDF it self. The next effect is DBID. I really like this effect and have actually been using a very similar approach for a few years now. Ben details the basic concept, but with imagination you really can create some very cleaver and cool effects from this. The next effect I tested out was "watch my predictions." This is actually an effect that I like ALOT!!!! Again this effect is creative and very easy to perform. If you wear a watch during performances then you will always have a great prediction effect on your hands. The second phase of the effect is the killer and loved the reactions I got when the initial prediction taped to the back of the watch had changed. "Your Card"- Simple and to the point. This effect kind of reminds me of Identity by Richard Sanders. The basic idea of the effect can allow you to reveal a spectators name on the back of their choosen card. Ben quickly goes over how this can be accomplished, but once you have the general idea of how the effect works, you can adapt it to many many ideas. The original effect Ben describes is the words "your card" appear on the back of the chosen card which has also turned into a different colored back. Overall I like this very much. At this point these are the effects I have actually performed and I have to say, they have got GREAT reactions. Very simple and all of them to the point! I have not yet attempted Chain, but am planning on this very soon. A little more practice and I will be all set. Chain is actually the first write up I have read on the linking cards idea. Its very creative and I really like the idea. I watched Bens video of this a few years back now, and after reading the workings of it, I am still amazed when watching the video. The description of the effect is very well written, and accompanied by many pictuers that are very helpful. My overall thoughts on this PDF are that it's well worth the price tag Ben's put on this. 11 effects, 33 pages and they are all real word tested. Can't get any better than that. Thanks, Bill |

REVIEW REPERTOIRE VOL. 1 by BEN WILLIAMS
Well lucky little me. I was also in the group to grab a copy of this and I really would have been happy to pay for this. The material in this pdf speaks volums for Bens work and really should not be over looked. All I can say on it would match other folks opinions but here are the stand outs for me HEARTLESS This is a nice take on this style off effect. Simple to do and just has that shock moment we all love... By far the best effect on here jsut for entertainment value 10/10 D.B.I.B Another stunnign little effect I cant wait to try out. Ill test this one out tonight 9/10 ( Just for the thoguht behind it lol) YOUR CARD MY MOUTH Another card to mouth. Many of them out there but this is a nice addition 8/10 I DUB THEE This is the first effect I tested and the reactions are oustanding.. 10/10 Those are the stand outs for me just now. I understand that this is only the first part of a set ( I hope) and I look forward to seeing what else will be splurged onto the page and into the community for Ben. A smart young man with a great mind for creating perfect magic. All in all Repertoire Vol 1 is well worth the money, It is too cheap if anything and every one will find somthign of use in here. Go on you know you want to.... well you need to! |

Just a quick note to say thanks for all the great reviews Repertoire Vol 1 has received.
It also will nost likely be going off sale from my website http://www.magicfromtheunderground.com from the 4th August as I am traveling around the West Coast of America for 6 weeks and won't have constant internet connection so I wouldn't want anyone to be missed or feel ignored. But before this Repertoire Vol 2 will be released very soon! Woo! I will sell this for a week if anyone is interested in buying it directly from me (please do!). I will most likely leave it up to my magical brothers to take care of sales whilst I am away. So please check my site http://www.magicfromtheunderground.com to see if it is still available and if not you will surely be able to find both Repertoire volumes at http://www.devilsadvocateproductions.com and http://www.magicshop.co.uk. Many thanks for all of your support, it is truly appreciated. Ben Williams |
