That was a nice move with the mike, I only wish the video had a bit better quality of video and higher frame rate.

I was lucky to get the product off of the tape, as most of it was stuck together. Its a lot better, of course in .avi which has better resolution. What you are watching was 100 meg .avi, reduced to 20 meg .wmv then converted to to a .flv file. The rest of the DVD has six card repeat, Slydini silks, sponge ball over the head, and fire eating. I posted the cards, and there's more to come. Earl passed away a month or so ago, and I decided it was time to share a bit from my archives.

Ian,
Thanks for that! It looked great to me! I’m looking forward to you posting more of his act. I never got to see Earl actually do his act. I did meet him briefly in NYC during the 76 (or was it 77?) SAM convention. He was horsing around in the lobby doing some cigarette stuff (remember when one could smoke in public places like hotel lobbies?!?). I remember he charmed my then wife (and a number of other wives) showing her some close-up stuff that wowed her and kept her laughing. She wasn’t impressed by many of the other guys there that week but did enjoy Earl. He was a true gentleman to her and many of the other spouses at the convention. He took a little extra time to make them feel comfortable. I called her when I heard that he died and reminded her of that time. She actually shed a tear saying that he and John Calvert were was the only fond memories she had of that particular convention. I doubt if she liked ten magicians in her whole life (I’m not one of them!) and you couldn’t pay her to watch a magic show. However she did like, enjoyed watching, and had fond memories of Earl.

Hi, you can actually upload the 100 meg file directly to youtube if you have the bandwidth for it. If youtube doesn't like your encoding you can just convert it to DVI or MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 at about the same size .

It not the encoding, nor is it the upload time. I want these volumes to be less public than youtube exposure. If someone is looking for Earl Johnson, the link will show up.
I also put it on my site, because if the memorial fund does not get the money it needs, I may put the files as a pay per view download and send the money generated to the guys who are trying to put up a stone on the grave-site. Techie stuff: The last file is 142 meg and was already converted from a 1 gig file in .avi. I upload to my site via ftp, and they like the "flv" format.

Thanks again for taking the time and trouble in preserving this piece of history and helping give a tribute to one of our unsung, brother magicians!
How it the fundraiser for the headstone going? Do they have a PayPal account set-up for contributions? I'd like to make a contribution.
