Hello friends,
iv been looking for about and hour now and have not really gotten and answer yet maybe you can help me. can anyone recommend me a book that mostly deals with color changes and some card tricks added to that also. I have not really played with cards for a really really long time just because I have focused on other parts of this art. But I can do a couple flourishes and I am pretty comfortable with a deck of cards. any advice are welcome thank you for the help. |

I barely recall a work entitled "Changing of the Cards" or something like that. The key images in my mind are Peter Duffie, Trapdoor and the Hurricane Change. That's about I can remember through my haze of Hefeweizen.
One time, when I was young, I botched a sleight so bad, Vernon, Marlo & Miller rolled over in their graves. But I didn't see Elmsley, probably because he was behind the others.

There's Dvd or two on color changes. You could start there.

Magicmayne,
Honestly, I'm not aware of any book that specifically deals with color changes and card tricks involving them, however Expert Card Technique by Hugard and Braue has a chapter devoted to changes, The Expert at the Card Table by S.W. Erdnase has a section entitled "Transformations" and describes both one and two-handed changes, and finally (probably closest to what you are searching for) Card College Volume 3 by Roberto Giobbi has an entire chapter devoted to color changes that is followed by a few effects using the changes. |

Okay, I just remembered. It was Steve Beam who had a manuscript of nothing but Color Changes.... Whew! Time for some Guinness!

I'd suggest Bertram on Sleight of hand for some remarkable changes. But the book covers much more than just color changes.

Not exactly a single source but I use Denis Behr's site quite often. The man has compiled a treasure trove of information.

Magicmayne - you've received quite a bit of input and a quick look at various dealer sites will show you literally dozens if not hundreds of sources for color changes.
Denis Behr's site should be bookmarked in your favorites as it can save a lot of time (thank you Denis for all your work and more importantly sharing it with us). Recently I was reading a post by Paul Wilson from a few years ago when he was the guest of the month here and one recommendation he had for routining was to begin with a color change or color change effect (quick, visual, gets their attention, establishes you, etc). It started me looking for color change sources that I currently own and thinking about acquiring newer versions now on the market. However I have to think that to do this 'correctly' don't we want to establish a firm foundation before we begin to look at some of the newer variations of this move? That's why I think your best bet (since you're a beginner with cards) would be to start with the classics (Royal Road, Expert Card Technique, Expert at the Card Table, Vernon, and throw in Giobbi as a contemporary classic). All of these books can be downloaded (except Giobbi's CCv3) from various sources. I'm a long-time customer of lybrary.com who's catalog is becoming bigger and better each month and has excellent customer service. All of those should keep you busy for a while. Once you have a firm grasp of the move and have experimented with performing it then you can begin to make more informed decisions on which of the contemporary versions you'd like to try out. Good luck and let us know what you decided and how it's working for you.
