Hey Guys, I am new to rope magic, and I am going to ask a question that many of you will consider dumb. I would like to find a routine that starts with a length of ungimmicked rope (and possibly an extra smaller piece**), has a tied and moving knot phase/ knot popping off the end, and incorporates several other phases that are both ungimmicked and are not necessarily easy, but not expert level stuff. I also need this routine to be playable to kids and and modifiable for adults. Guys and girls, Where should I start and what are your pet rope routines?

David,
I know that you live in Canada but in August Magic Ian (MagicIanS) will be lecturing FREE at FAB in Colon, MI. His lecture and the one by Al Angello on rope magic are two you must see. Try to be there. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I have just produced a simplified version of my NeckLacy ShareBook called "Neck-Less" which may fit your needs perfectly. Starts with a single rope and ends with same. In between are four different C/R effects and suggestions for other effects easily incorporated into the flow of things -- such as ring on string, a cup effect, Haunted Key -- an entire Routine on a Rope.

Fibre optics and Daryls 3 DVDs have given me a endless amount to play with. I have a nice single rope routine going. Also a ring and rope routine. Then I also use my single rope routine (Based around fibre optics) with a added ring routine. I have also done a walk round set using finger rings and rope. I have also used Darly coat escape for a small stage piece.
So there 2 resource and some stuff I pulled from it and bilive me there's much more for me to work on.
Enjoy your magic,
and let others enjoy it as well! |

I too have found Fiber Optics and Daryls DVD set to be very helpful. I am hoping to scrape a few bucks together in the near future for the purchase of Ian's Dance with Ropes.

Using rope as the catalyst, it allows you to incorporate a variety of themes using everyday objects with rope. The unique "thread" of this is wearing the rope and props around your neck. This is excellent as a walk-a-round act for a restaurant or renaissance fair. The rustic props seem innocent enough and the magic is believable. This is especially useful if you do not want to go to your pockets. Your entire act is on your neck. So, if you have a costume, or do clowning, it is also perfect.
