Community,
In the Fred Kaps' FISM act, he does a bit with a hanky and coins. He tosses the coin in the air and it vanishes. It goes thru the air and lands in his hanky. You know it landed because the hanky moves in accordance with the coin landing. As more coins are tossed you can hear the clink. Where is this in print? If it is.... Cheers, nick wiszynski |

Dai Vernon's "Silk and Silver". It's in the Vernon Chronicles, as well as on the Revelations videos.

Nick, Welcome to the Café. I'm not sure if Kaps version is in print anywhere. Kaps learned this routine from Vernon. then added his touches to it. You can find Vernons routine in The Vernon Chronicles Vol. 1 The Lost Inner Secrets. You can see it performed by Bruce Cervon on the L&L VHS of the same name.
Curtis Kam has a version of the Vernon routine on Palms of Steel vol.1 Chris Kenner also has a routine in his book Out of Control. I'm sure there's more out there. But, these are the ones off the top of my head. Best, Joe

Go to Vernon Chronicles to see the brilliant original.
Go to Curtis Kam for a brilliant routining of this effect. Go to Tom Stone for a brilliant variation on the steal (makes it so much easier). Go to Doug Brewer for a variation of it to introduce a gaff into play for a subsequent routine. I love this effect - it has a very strong appeal to lay audiences. |

Tom's variation is both in print and in his recent DVD. It really really simplifies the placement of the coins in the routine where the coins are usually "clink passed" into the hank. This is the weakest point of the original routine IMO and is rather important as it should be the most deceptive. Tom's variation is something you have seen and will be something you slap yourself going "why didn't I think of that?". I wrote Tom several years ago when I first read it and thanked him for such a great idea. I use it in my routine (with credit) but I go in a different direction than Tom does after the move.

Cellini`s dvd, with silk and coins, is impromptu magic & called, I believe, "Anytime, Anywhere". Great dvd. He says it`s his shorter, version of Fred Kaps routine.
Nothing is better than more.

Marc De Souza deals with the Routine and the clinking on his new DVD set. It was previously explained by him in his Art of Artifice Lecture Notes (the updated version) called Diminishing Cash and Coins.
Bruce Cervon teaches it on the Vernon Chronicles Video but there are 3 versions in the Vernon Chronicles book. It is also on the Dai Vernon Revelations series. This however only pertains to the dollar size coins. Kaps did both the smaller coins, which he learnt from Dai Vernon and adapted to suit his particular style, and jumbo coins. Gary Kurtz has a beautiful version published in an early set of his notes and chris kenner has a gimmicked version in his TOOC Book. Markr |
