Well, maybe I should have said; "...but are still attracted to women!"
OTOH, I'm betting they get more than you would think. (We're not talking "Star Wars" fans here.)

I'd love the name of the bar they came out of so we can get the story from the evil culprits themselves.

I study Hapkido (Hoi Jeon Moo Sool) with my two kids. We love it, and we look forward to going to our classes, despite the grueling workouts involved. We don't do it because we want to kick arse. We don't do it because we've ever been harassed, assaulted, or anything like that. We do it because it's the best darn exercise program ever, and we do it because it balances us physically, mentally, and spiritually.
A bit of personal experience follows: In any given situation, to under-react is as unbalancing as is to over-react. I'll tell you from your original post that you may feel a little out of balance as a result of your confrontation, but I urge you to ask yourself if you either under-reacted or over-reacted to the situation. I think you'll find that your reaction was perfectly within the median... stay cool, don't play their game, get out of it with your head still attached, etc. Knowing this, knowing that you neither under nor overreacted, you will soon be able to regain your own personal balance. My brother in law is an avid practitioner of Aikido for MANY MANY years... though I don't rightly recall which exact form... and I can tell you something about him. He doesn't do it because he's been assaulted. He doesn't do it because he wants to hurt people. He does it for the same sane reason as me. He seeks personal balance. Karate, Taekwondo, and Kung Fu use a lot of Force against Force along with balance control, while Aikido and Hapkido (Aikido's Korean variation) use mainly balance and footwork. Hapkido uses kicks and strikes and the like, too, and Aikido, the Angel's Art, has no real strikes other than those used to startle or knock an opponent off balance, so that the projections or immobilizations can be effected. There is something quite magical about using an opponent's own force and energy against them. The more they attack, the more they wind up flying through the air and talking to the ground. It's up to you how you choose to regain your balance. There are many ways. You must decide.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

He saw that I was walking with my hands open and swinging too much. He reminded me that I had to walk in a way that would make people think twice if they were to mess with me. He told me never to slouch, walk with both hands in close fist position and keep the swinging to a minimum. I never forget that. |

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

Your experience had to be extremely terrifying or you would not have posted about it. There are many excellent suggestions here but I feel that what one does is a product of his past experience. Many people could possibly be trained in martial arts, some may carry a taser, some pepper spray and others as myself may have a concealed weapon. All of these defenses had better come with "reading the label"..in other words you better know how to use them and more imporant know when to use them.
At this point in my life not to much scares me as I have been in some very dangerous places with a constant threat to my life. Namely Viet Nam. Nothing worse than someone trying to kill you 24/7. The best defense is to avoid...AVOID AVOID..Just because you have a license to carry a concelaed weapon it is not a license to use it. I have been taught that when you present the weapon you are not using it as a scare tactic..when presented all other choices are out the window. If it is not to be used in defense of your life...Remember these words "in defense of your life"...if this situation is not applicable you should not have presented your weapon in the first place. You have other options mostly appropreiate is to avoid..this can be turning and fleeing, putting distance beteen you and the agressor by either running away or running to a posistion where safety is afforded. Presenting a weapon of deadly force is a last resort and to be used only when your life or life of loved ones is in danger of death or great physcial harm. I have to disagree with the person sayiing that being kicked in the groin is going to last for about 30 seconds and then fill you with adrelin...I hope you are kidding. It is definitely a fight ending blow, and if you are worried about it wearing off in 30 seconds I am sure you can put a lot of disance between him and you in 30 seconds or really just incapicate him in those 30 seconds either way the oonfrontation should be over. Remember in fighting for your live there is no clean fights only winners and death...you decide which you want to be. Everything and anything goes, that includes biting, eye gouging and yes kicking some one in that hurtful place or really pulling them hard. It sounds trite but the only rules in a fight such as we are discussing is that there are no rules. Back to the original poster. Believe it or not you came out a winner because you survived so that in itself should give you confidence. Hold your head high because you are able to write about it. You survived what could have turned really ugly. MOre of a man than you realize. Most people will never have to face a situation such as yours and if they do I only hope they a fare as well as you. And while I could say that put it behind you I will not. Face it..It happened and you survived. I have tried to put things behind me but they are always there but I would rather say let it be a learning experience. Off the soap box now.
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000
