I have twin nephews (11 y.o.) who would like to be in one of my shows. I have been pondering how to use them. They are identical. Ideas?

I always feel that when using twins, it should look like something happens where it could be just the one person, so that the idea of twins never crosses the audiences mind.
When David Copperfield presented "The Blade" (vertical sawing) to a group of magicians, they told him not to open both sides at the same time when the boxes are split. What would come to mind when looking at two haves of a person? When he was performing for audiences, he pulls the box apart, opened one side, closed it, pushed them together briefly, pulls it apart again and then opens the other side. This way the audience thinks there is just one person (there always is, plus some extra parts). The audience never thinks there are extra parts. Here is a video to show what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jwqi3PaYozI To me, there is a problem with an effect looking too perfect. Just something to think about.

If you use twins, first of all, make sure that they are never seen together before, during or after your shows. Also make sure that you dress them differently, except for the show, so that an accidental glimpse by an audience member won't give it away. Don't use them in their home town, because people will know them. As far as illusions to use them in -- the sky's the limit! Any transposition illusion becomes extremely effective using twins. Flyto would be one example.

I once saw a magician who used twins in a transportation/transposition effect. The illusion was very nice, but evidently, he thought that throwing a costume change in the mix would heighten the effect. All it did was make the audience realize that there were twins involved.
Maybe not "too perfect", but "too much"...
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

May I say the possibilities are endless. My brother and I performed in Dracula as Dracula and we pulled off a lot of stuff in the show. Mind you we where never seen together before during or after the show. Very very important as this can ruin the whole magic part of the effect.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Good advice. If I were to vanish one child on stage, and have the other appear at the back of the auditorium. How would you vanish an eleven year old boy on stage. I would prefer a method that will not require me to build another complicated illusion. I have come to the realization that I have no need for multiple large illusions.

How about a deceptive steps with a crate on top. You have one son go into the crate slipping into the steps as the crate is lifted up. Then move the steps and platform a little out of the way and have the crate come crashing down and break down flat on stage to show it empty and have you other son appear in the back of the audience. There are a lot of steps and platforms out there for a reasonable cost. I think that this would be a powerful part of your act that would justify the new illusion addition. My two cents.
