Except for Canadian locations that are named after Dog breeds.

But our bear stories scare everyone away.

You probably know this, but for others ... Newfoundland and Labrador are themselves names of dogs:
http://www.heritage.nf.ca/facts5.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newfoundland_dog Newfoundland dogs are big suckers. Some are over 200lbs. The record is 260 lbs, and it measured over six feet from nose to tail.

DUH! You think MAYBE that's why I posted them? Or originally mentioned it since the poster WAS FROM Newfoundland? Geeze Baldy...cut some slack. I was right about that town in the link!
I had a Newfy as part of my Alaska Pack. He was the only one to live outside. We called him Fish because he would hang out at the docks and ROLL in the dead fish leavings. Great dog though a bit oily.

Like I said in my post, Doug, I was posting it for others. The Newfoundland Dog seems not to be that well known.
I've only seen one once, myself, and that was when I was on a schooner out looking at icebergs.

I've seen one! It was huge and a very nice dog. To be honest I've always been surprised how little different a little dog and a huge dog are in behavior.

It's a good thing that dogs aren't named after Newfoundland and Labrador towns, though.
Who'd want a dog called "come by chance" or "killbride" or "d I l d o"? crazy place. John

Here's a song about weird Newfoundland place names by the Arrogant Worms. And yes, it's called "A Night in D I l d o".

The farmer story mentions a goose getting killed by a weasel. I dunno what kind of tame geese are raised on farms, but the ones I have met can tear through a car door to get to the terrified children inside.
Trapeze above the Grand Canyon. Be impressed.
