The modern product is substantially different from the "tempered hardboard" of 30 years+ ago; previously, the material was immersed in hot oil and pressed, making it extremely dense. Today's products is sprayed with oil (sometimes resin) and baked.
I just found some 4x8x1/8" sheets at Reel Lumber (they supply contractors & cabinet shops). Evidently, there's little demand for the stuff in thicker sizes, and the lighter "service tempered hardboard" is much more common. |
