Hey guys, I just got done making my first Okito box from cold rolled steel. Thought you guys may appreciate it:

It isn't balanced like I want and there are a few things I am going to change on the next one but all in all it works. Best thing is that another machinist asked me what I was working on. He wanted to see it when I was done, and when I showed him it fooled him.

Suggestions are very welcome.

I think it came out great. I would polish it up if passable but otherwize it a good job.

I would make the lid less deep. Most Okito boxes don't have a deep lid. Normally the lid (on the inside) is about the depth of one coin. This might help with the balance issue.

Best,
Sammy

Sammy, thanks for the advice. After handling it quite a bit today I realized the same thing. The deeper lip makes the box harder to handle during the sleight and also increasing the likelihood that it will catch when you open the box. I am going to try again soon and we'll see what I come back with.

Very nice. Did you do this on a lathe?

Yep, it was all lathed. I have access to a mid-sized machine shop so I figured I'd make use of it. I have enough stock left for about 3-4 more quarter sized boxes and 5-6 half sized ones. Hopefully I can get it right before I'm out of materials.

Good luck and have fun. Post your new stuff after you make them.
