Has anyone had any experience with having a videotape of your show critiqued? If so, who helped you and was it a worthy investment?
Thanks in advance AM

Just some random thoughts on this subject…
Anyone (in Magic) whose work you respect could critique your show. If you belong to an IBM or SAM group, some of their members could give you helpful information on your show. Two or more folks may pick up on something that the other person may have missed. Have them pay special attention to your misdirection actions and how the patter fits the effect. Also, have a non-magician offer a critique as to entertainment value and their comfort level in observing the show. Likewise, a critique from a theatre person [check with your community theatre or college FA Department] would be helpful for such things as blocking, redundant actions/movement, and timing. You should not need to go to any expense getting a video of your show. Most anyone with a video setting on their digital camera and a 4 – 8 gig card can make a very decent video for review. Let them keep a copy of the video for their efforts. |

Go to Joanie Spina.
She offers consulting on videotape. She worked for Copperfield for ten years and for Kalin & Ginger to name a few... Very nice person. She doesn't work on the technical aspect but more on showmanship. ARNO |

I highly recommend Bob Fitch. I attended his workshop 2 times. He is brilliant. ANYONE, from beginner to pro can benefit immensely from him. Besides, he is a very likeable person. And he does video critiques.

I'd be willing to do this for a small fee -- being housebound and all. I used to give live evals for magicians on a contract basis as mentioned on several threads, and I do evals of PDF's for several people on the Café'. If you wish for detail on everything and brutal honesty, contact me. I can also arrange for lay evals including my wife, who being visually impaired, picks up on things I don't.
