Well....today, my five year old son and my three year old daughter decided that the day was right for our "lemonade" stand. It was hot. There was reasonable foot traffic. It just seemed right.
On either side of the station (in our front driveway) the kids wrote on the sidewalk an arrow pointing toward the stand with "What is it? You tell us!". A small sign on the sidewalk, and on the stand. I will skip some of the details (for that, you will have to get a 'zibit). But we offered a chance to tell us what it was for 50 cents. Lemonade was 25 cents. We were guessing the marks would cough up 75 cents for the whole package, but not wanting to deal with the change issue, let the 5 year old keep the whole dollar. (This marketing theory was proved absolutely correct). In 20 min. we had made 12 bucks. But I must say, the best "suggestion" came from a patron....who said..."Hmmm...25 cents for a lemonade and 50 cents to see this thing and tell you what it is? Hmmm. What is it?" My son, of course, said, "I dunno...the last guy thought it was a mermaid, but one guy thought it was a space alien. I don't know what it is, you take a look and tell me." "Hmm", said the patron, "Well, I'm curious so I will pay the 50 cents..I hope it isn't just another glass of lemonade." Too bad I didn't think of it first! I am so ashamed.

That's nothin'.
Last week I bravely tried a Mexican restaurant where the menu said (or should have said) "What is it? You tell us." That experience has stayed with me for a week now. Might end soon. I hope. |

I'm incredibly impressed with the entire approach. Chris |

I said it before and I'll say it again...
"I love this business!!!" Will anyone leave a sillier legasy? Should I add 'Lemonaid Stands' to the How-To? haha. Thanks for the great story. My only suggestion is that the word 'Marks' be replaced with 'Customers'. The attitude adjustment is a significant part of the plan.

Noted! We treated everone with great respect.
But, to teach my son a lesson, every time he let someone walk by and didn't say, "Sir, can you tell me what this is?"; I said, "You see! You just let a dollar walk by".

I hope you taught your Son to put a tear in all $2 bills he takes in..or, to unload them at once as change...

2 is 2...gather 10 of 'em and have 20. Take the 20 and cash it in for Pennies...adds power to the Yellow Top.
