When I was younger (much younger!), it was possible to buy Bengal Matches. They were slightly longer than the standard variety and half the match length was coated in a solid black coloured substance with a red tip.
When struck, the match flared very brightly and burned for much longer than normal matches. You often got them in boxes of indoor fireworks, but they were also sold in ordinary cardboard matchboxes - some with red printing, others with green. Does anyone else remember them - and (million dollar question!) know if and where they may still be purchased? Leslie

Yeh I remember them! I used to love indoor fireworks! They were funny things, not really 'fireworks' as we know them now though lol.
I don't know where you can get those matches now though, be interesting to hear what you have in mind with them? Daz |

The problem with the white tipped strike-anywhere matches was that mice were attracted to the sulfur and would eat them. As the mouse would gnaw through the boxes, their teeth would scrape up against the white tip. Well, this would ignite the match.... and the 100 other matches in the box.... and the 100 boxes in the case... and the 20 cases on the pallet... and the stacks of pallets filled with tens of cases of hundreds of boxes of hudreds of matches in the warehouse. Guess what happened to the warehouse? Now we know why they don't make strike-anywhere matches anymore.

Okay, now we get it with the "indoor fireworks".... they were never allowed in the US.

Sorry if my comment sounded rude, it wasn't meant that way - I simply was astonished that for me it seemed to be quite easy to find them and also that they were available.
And as I am ordering most of my magic stuff from the U.S. I thought it would not be a problem for someone in the U.S. to do it the other way around?
