You can find out more about Uprising on Richard's website. I'd completely forgotten about this release! Cloth by Steve Valentine seems like a good companion product and would allow you to perform a few tricks with playing cards and a handkerchief. I never used to like using handkerchiefs or cloths in close-up because they're not an everyday item anymore. However, if you dress smartly, pocket squares and handkerchiefs do not seem out of place.

Thanks for the suggestions, Marty. I got a nice reply from Richard; it sounds like Uprising is beyond my current skills. Maybe someday...

"Levit-Ace-Tion" is an original routine created by my Dad in the 1980s. It features an ingenious technique to perform a rising card with no gimmicks. It is entitled "St. Louis Rising Card". See video below (rising card takes place at 2:13 but watch the whole routine to get the full effect). Its explanation can be found on "Bill Wisch Card Magic" released by MYMagic and on his newly released 1992 Convention Lecture DVD, that is jam packed with tons of other things as well! The MYMagic Bill Wisch Slydini Videos are available as a set at a special price from Bill if you email him at bill@wisch-craft.com

I appreciate but am not impressed with the Wisch version above. A variation of a very common card rise.
Sanders' card rise seems promising. But it is one of those things, IMHO, that looks great on a video when it is captured just perfectly. In reality it has angle problems, the bevel is kind of obvious, many things can and do go wrong, and having to hold it in the same hand just looks like a setup. The covered plunger card rise I described above is superior for a no gaff version, IMHO, can be passed hand the hand, the setup is when it is covered. But if you need a video reference or a name to attach to it, you can find inferior, more suspicious versions all over. You don't have to agree, ok. Just do what works for you. |

Glad to know you are unimpressed, countrymaven! Thankfully, I wasn't trying to "impress" you with the post. That said, you clearly are a man who is set in his ways and has his opinion on what is "best". So, please continue to "do what works for you" as you so eloquently stated above and continue to be unimpressed. Take care!

I appreciate all the contributors here. But frankly, when a magician holds the deck while it is rising, it is less impressive for obvious reasons.
That is why I have devised something that has the effect like a Devano deck but with any deck. You let them shuffle the cards and freely choose a card, and they sign it. You set the deck down and their card starts to rise slowly and irregularly you "tap" the deck and it almost shoots out. You show them the signed card and hand the card and deck to them. Still working out a few choices but I am sure this will be a killer. |
