Neil"
Keep in mind I didn't advocate using a Yad for that - no do I do so - I just said it might be related to the Yad. It reminded me thereof. Interesting that there would be those offended by the use of such a utilitarian device. I guess that would take the 'special' out of it from a ritual standpoint. Wouldn't have expected it; thanks for the insight. Mine, however, is called a 'SQWAAAAAAWK!' or something like that. brane |

For a ritual element, why not have each of the items: cup, rod, knife, and coin?

Im sure that would work just fine, but I love the pointer. Besides, I'll be using it with the Carnie tarot. Pure entertainment

Neil, I didn't advocate the use of the yad in any way, whether in a performance or a ritual context. I simply said the possible connection -- historically -- between the Tarot pointer and the Yad was interesting. Being a student of such things, I still find it so. Additionally, I am a firm believer that religious attitudes (and beliefs, as well) should be challenged from time to time. If things don't stand up to an occasional shaking up, then they must not be very strongly held in the first place.
Tony, I had never heard of the dang thing, either! Bill

The function of a pointer is to focus attention. It also serves to underscore your words. Like a professor standing in front of a blackboard using his pointer to draw his students to the information. Its a compelling device
At least that's the way I see it |

I just assumed it was for those who had been in a farming accident and could no longer point with their fingers.
