Strange Tasting Fish Sticks 1988 - 2013 The Big Brother is watching you 1095 Posts |
As I keep watching David Stone, I always have my jaw drop on his smoothness. From his four coin roll down (He says he doesn't even like flourishes, I can do a four coin roll down but not as quick as him), to his Michael Ammar's wiped clean (I do this too, but it is no where as effortless as him), to everything like his classic palm. His routining is great...I'm still working on the classic palm.
I've been practicing a routine on his second DVD called "I Want You." It involves classic palming 4 coins, dropping them, and producing 4 coins from no where. It involves a nice use of a back thumb palm, to hide a cleverly hidden coin which looks magical as the final coin is produced. The problem with it is it is very angley, it amazes how he manages to do it in front of the camera with zero flashing. Similarly with the David Roth's Winged Silver, I've gotten quite good I think with my shuttle pass, I would practice it in front of the TV on commercials for hours a day. Although I wouldn't consider it perfect or nearly as good as David Roth's, I am satisfied with it. I still do not perform it in real live because again I have not perfected it, I can not do it 100% every time perfectly, sometimes there is hiccups, and I really should continue practicing it instead of moving to another trick, but the winged silver is seated down, where "I Want You" is standing. I love standing tricks a lot more....the great thing is its sleeveless. It's hard to find tricks on David Stone's tapes without using a jacket, but this is one of them. The problem is when I'm practicing it, I'm sitting down! I can't get my whole body into it, and I found out the mirror I bought (Three fold practice mirror recommended here) isn't ideal either because although it is wide enough, it simply is not tall enough. I assume it's best for card work, but I do coin work! You may have seen David Stone's beautiful trick where he produces 4 coins between 2 cards. This is a hard trick! I am constantly amazed at his ability to classic palm 4 coins so easily..., I have been practicing classic palming 4 coins (as well as exercising the muscle) for months now, and I still cannot hold them all at one time without them falling occasionally. He really is a FISM winner.... I am nowhere near performance level on this trick. I have been practicing it for months, off and on. I still got a long ways to go. But it's something I practice every time I watch TV. It still amazes me how smooth he is able to do it. Has anyone else performed this trick in person? Could you give me some tips? Thanks. |

The only tip I can think of re: the palming of four coins in classic palm... don't hold so tightly (sorry for assuming, but I'm just assuming that may be one of your issues). You shouldn't need a HUGE thumb pad muscle to hold four coins.
Find your perfect moisture balance in your hands. Dry hands make palming hard. Sweaty hands make palming hard. I have trouble with the latter, and I use antiperspirant on my palms before I perform. After that has dried and absorbed, I use a tiny, TINY, bit of hairspray. I also use the hairspray in my hair so that throughout performing, if I need a little extra "stick" in my palms I just run my hands through my hair. This won't be a "cure-all." You have to find what works for you. To release one at a time, hold everything still and only cock your pinky out and up slightly. That works for me, and delivers only one coin at a time very consistently. The last tip... don't focus on angle-sensitive magic to start with. It produces frustration. It does depend on your audience, though. If you typically perform one-on-one, go ahead, master those angles. If you perform for lots of people, just stick to the stuff that no one will be able to see. It's easy not to flash on camera. You just do it 10 times and take the best one.
