It is with heavy heart in which I relate the news I just heard from friend Jim Canaday:
Last week Marty was not feeling well and was having pain in his stomach, he went to the hospital and was admitted. From what I understand, there was some sort of infection and they did not catch it in time. Marty passed away on Friday, 18 September 2009. Marty was a frequent poster here in the street magic section and was working on putting together a street show. He also shared his knowledge on computers and programming. He was a programmer before medical issues forced a retirement from that field. Marty had a great love of magic. I met him at a holiday party we had for the SAM years ago, he then joined our assembly and eventually took over producing our newsletter, The Barnstormer. He did this for two years. Recently he started working on the Silent Messenger, the newsletter for IBM Ring 122. When I spoke to Marty just a few weeks ago, he shared his excitement for working on this and said he had found his magical home with Ring 122. Marty supported his friends, and was a frequent visitor to the Mystery Lounge in Cambridge, this was where I saw him last, he came out to support me because he had heard that I was working there. He had a huge heart and a great spirit. Although Marty had just become active in the Boston magic community a few years ago, he had become a fixture in it due to his love of magic, his willingness to help, and his heart. His friendship and enthusiasm will be missed by all who knew him. Tony Iacoviello |

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
Magic is an art. I am merely a tour guide.

I really like the support Marty has given to me on the Café. He is a person I will always remember. I wish I could have met him in person because of his kindness and wisdom. I will never forget the PMs we always shared with each other. Peace to a wonderful member.

My best to all concerned. I believe I communicated with Marty a few times here in this forum, and he did seem like a true gentleman.
