THE BEAUTIFUL LIE - The latest book of Iain Dunford
I got this and I must say I like the variety of effects contained in the tome. Some effects are too gimcracky for my taste (Sealed Thoughts is one) and Iain himself is the first to tell you that, upfront. This by no means detracts from their effectiveness, but it's not my preferred style. Also there are effects using Post-It and Iain knows how much I love to play with those sticky devils... The effect with Scrabble has some good potential and I can see myself comng up with some variation on the theme. The Kinder egg effect (which should be in the arsenal of Parmenion, since he seems to love those chocolate things) is very creative and I could compare it (for lack of better comparison, I admit) to a novel way of playing the "Chinese Cookie Prediction". I would personally have four or five of them ready and then be able to know which one is selected through some appropriate marking, AND I would end up by DRAWING the final revelation, if you get my hint. There is one index very easy to make and as - some of its predecessors - it costs you next to nothing and has some "sticky" "in-built" peculiarity that can come off handy for some things. ICUDOUCME is a versatile effect with playing cards / Zener symbols, which can play as a serious test. I also liked the Black & White Picture Show, though something like that, for diffrent purposes, was used by Bruce Bernstein... And - for the record - when reading that effect I thoguht this idea would be an EXCELLENTway to cue some participant after you put them into a light trance... And there are at least other ten effects I haven't mentioned and at least some amongst them have to fit in your performance style. All in all, an interesting (and very easy to read) book. Recommended!

Ah bless you paolo - I genuinely wasnt expecting that...im very pleased you liked some of it!
yes, the sealed thoughts effect was a challenge I wanted to set that uses up all those things most of us have laying around and never use...there's a very bare bones mention of it on here somewhere in fact... but anyway - glad you liked the post-it note things, I thought you would... again - thanks very much sir!

Iain,
I liked all of it (as I do with all books and videos I own). I'm not that picky when it comes to read other people's thoughts (pun intended) because anything one reads, provided there was some thinking put into the thing, can only - either enrich your knowledge or remind you of methods you already knew from a lifetime but for one reason or another you forgot you knew... I'm only picky when I have to choose what I WANT TO PERFORM, but I guess, and this should go without the need for me to say it, that every performer of a certain caliber is as picky or even pickier than I am.

Iain is a guy who can certainly "hang a presentation". I had an early look at this, as well. Here are some of my favorites:
Sealed Thoughts: I read Paolo's take on this, but I like the fact that Iain has given this effect a "full presentation". Several items are hidden in a number of envelopes. The participant is able to psychically locate each of them. They can also unknowingly determine not only the contents, but information about the contents they could not have known. I like that the contents are used for their own extensions of the effect. While one may want to adapt it, that is exactly what I see people doing. Pin Bar Saunters: While the full method is not described here, anyone who has the Fulves books or PS1, will be able to make full use. What I like about this, is that I am sure (though I have not tested), that this will give people plenty of room to mis-remember what happens here, and that it will probably end up an anecdote told to others (thus amplifying your powers, as it ripples). Receipt Deceit: What a cool idea. There are a number of boxes with gifts and your helper is able to find a gift that matches a receipt for that gift (which could be in full view). Not a method that will surprise most, but one of the best ways I have seen to use it. This would be really great for a "party get-together" (assuming you don't mind if some gets a "gift receipt"). Easy and really fun. "Oddsortment Idea": "You underestimate my sneakiness" (so says the thoughts of Iain). I am so jealous that I did not think of this. Forget a CT, just ball up a piece of paper and put it in a matchbox. I had a cheshire cat grin when I read this. As soon as you read it, you will think "why did I not think of this"... you just weren't sneaky enough. "Black and white Picture Show": I like routines that start with an intruiging, but real, "hook". This premonition effect (or could be framed as a influence effect...sorry Iain). This is just the kind of thing I like: Subtle psychological methods and some stealthy sure-fire work. I dig this one too. "Sacaanda": This is a cool ACAAN idea (that Iain admits that you will love or hate). I love it (but card purists won't). In fact, I have thought of using the exact same method for other effects. While the world may be divided between lovers and haters, I will let you decide which you are (don't be a playa hater). This one plays like the real thing, but will take a little nerve. You'll need a set. There's a ton in here people. This is over a 100 pages of clever mentalism for under $30. It's a steal http://www.lulu.com/content/paperback-bo....../7652561 Iain is one sharp brit. Regards, Sean |

Aw, bless you sean, that was very kind of you...
I am very touched and flattered by the positive comments coming through so far - apparently its taking only 2-5 days for copies to be printed and shipped out from lulu.com who now print in the uk, and the states (amongst other places now)... there's bits and pieces you can do at bars, parties and other gatherings, to full on pieces that can be close-up, parlour and quite a few can be adapted to stage as well... thanks to everyone who's said nice things about this book on here, via email and pm too..
