Has anyone built the ring box Tommy Wonder describes in the Books of Wonder? Though he gives pretty good dimensions for the size of the box, he says he built it using veneer. Is there a standard thickness for veneer? I would like to reproduce the box as accurately as possible, but to me veneer is more of a description of the use of the wood, not the dimensions.
Thanks, Richard |

Tommy used to recommend me for the ring box and I built a number of them. I used 1/8" stock usually rosewood.
...Your professional woodworking and "tender" loving care in the products you make, make the wait worthwhile. Thanks for all you do...

The Tommy Wonder Ambitious Card to Ring Box is a terrific routine.
I have a limited supply of exquisite ring boxes is anyone is interested. They are from various domestic and exotic hardwoods, built according to the original dimensions, with a ebony front button and utilize brass hinges. These hinges are very free in movement, and work perfectly as well as the original Tommy Wonder cloth hinged box. These boxes truly a craftsman’s delight, excellent quality, excellent joinery, and perfect finish. Currently I have walnut, rosewood, bubinga, paduak and a few mesquite boxes on hand. |
