Hi everyone, I'm Anthony and I'm new to this forum.
I need some help concerning a new (?) effect. I would like to know if it has been done before or to have some more credits. I'd like to market it at disturbreality.com with Geraint Clarke but we have to be sure it's original. If you could make some reviews about it, I'll highly appreciate your help. Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/user/antoy1103#p/a/u/0/Tzh6GekPAx0 thanks in advance Anthony |

The card passing through the box effect has been done by Randi Wakeman, Steve Brooks, and I believe also Darwin Ortiz. Other magicians have done it too. It's old.
The sandwich revelation is very old, and there are hundreds, if not thousands of sandwich routines. Some current magicians who have used that idea include Harry Lorayne, Alan Ackerman, Darwin Ortiz, Steven Youell, and others, but it goes back to way before any of those men were born. For just one example, see Alan Ackerman's "76" routine. I don't know if any magician has combined the effect of the card passing through the box with that specific revelation. I'd be surprised if someone hadn't. I don't think using a very old revelation to end an existing trick would generally make me consider the latter trick to be novel. It doesn't in this case.

Thanks a lot for you response.
The thing is that I wanted to know about the box steal, I know it's an old idea but it's the way it is done that I made up... the hands are empty and the box is shown both sides I also use it for a brainwave effect and a card to wallet. this video was just showcasing the steal... I'll check Allan Ackerman's "76" though. thanks |

Steal was nice, load was....suspicious. I like the steal and I think its interesting. Would prefer to see applications with less "flash" in the handling!

I'm not digging the combined steal out/load (it looks fishy) but the control is wicked cool (as in- fooled!)

I agree! I wanna see more of that control! Resembles a bit the WOW control I think it was called?

Definitely prefer the second video - you do telegraph the steal though, as your timing changes. Its something we do all have to be very aware of - for instance, if I'm not pattering I notice that I hold my breath on the more difficult sleights!
I think what you need now is presentation - at the moment this isn't interesting as it falls into the "wow...cool..." category of magic. Nice moves, but why do we, and the audience, care? Carefully thought out patter and choreography will probably also help you to mask the dirty work. Perhaps there are additional phases - perhaps its an "ambitious sandwich" routine, where the card keeps on jumping between the sandwich cards, culminating in the sandwich happening under the most impossible of conditions. Just some random late night thoughts! David.

Thanks,
the two controls are from Olivier Macia from "Control Freak DVD", yes. And for the wallet trick I have a good patter to make the dirty work, I totally agree with you Shodan. If some of you would like to see the method to tell me if it's original (I'm talking about the steal) you can send me an email at: antoy1103@hotmail.fr see you |

It would take some time to do the necessary research, but asking here is a good start. anthonychanut wrote: Quote:
I'll check Allan Ackerman's "76" though. thanks That routine, like hundreds of others, uses the sandwich revelation. It will not help you with the research you need. It is, however, a great three-phase routine and I recommend it for that reason. Other than using that revelation, it has nothing to do with this topic. I wrote: Quote:

Controls and revelations can be combined in tens of thousands of ways, so I tend not to get excited about routines that are just a single control followed by a revelation. I do like your combination. anthonychanut wrote: Quote:

That is a nice move, I would like to know where it originates from as well (if it turns out to not be your original work). I'm more of a novice magician (amateurs perform shows, just not as well as a professional imho) that does it for friends, family and at social gatherings on more of an individual level than a group or audience level (most I think I've had is about 12 people watching me perform an effect).
So I don't use many (if any) passes or controls, and this looks like it would be more suited to my style. My e-mail is Stgdemon@comcast.net if anyone has info and is not comfortable posting here, thanks and have a "magical" day, lol. Brandon Juhnke |
